Komet-1.jpg

The Messerschmitt Me 163 Komet, designed by Alexander Lippisch, was a German rocket-powered fighter aircraft. It is the only rocket-powered fighter aircraft ever to have been operational. Its design was revolutionary, and the Me 163 was capable of performance unrivaled at the time. German test pilot Heini Dittmar in early July 1944 reached 1,130 km/h (700 mph), not broken in terms of absolute speed until November 1947. Over 300 aircraft were built however, the Komet proved ineffective as a fighter, having been responsible for the destruction of only about nine Allied aircraft (16 air victories for 10 losses, according to other sources).

The build:

When HLJ started preorder on this one i signed straight away, as this airplane has allways fascinated me.
Think i build the Red painted one in 1/72 when i was a kid, but that wont be the colorscheme this time.

I didnt take any sprueshots, but that is well covered in the review here:

I will build this one straight oob, but the kit screams for open panels and superdetailing :)

Cockpit tub :
Meng have molded the fuel tanks with noe structure at all, so i have tryed to make some by adding thin Tamiya-cement, for then to go over it with a stiff brush.

Some pit-parts ready for painting:

Cockpit painted and weathered, still a bit too shiny, will dull it down some more.
Instruments are PE with seperate decal-dials. Looks weird, but thats the Kristal Clear who hasnt dryed up yet.

Also started on some mainframe assembly, and i must say i like the way Meng has enginered the body-wing joint.

Got some fit problems with the rear part/front part of the main body, hope i can sort it out, else i must glue it in place so i loose the option to show it seperated.
