Wez
Many, many years ago, when it first came out I made the ESCI 1/72nd F-4C/J Phantom as an F-4J. I remember the kit fondly as a serviceable and relatively easy to construct kit with reasonable details and IIRC fairly accurate. I built mine as an F-4J but one thing I don't remember was whether it featured the "shorter" exhausts typical of the F-4B/C/D/N, can anybody tell me whether it did or not. For the Phantom afficianados out there, I'm not saying that the F-4B/C/D/N exhausts were physically shorter but they did feature exhausts with shorter petals unlike the exhausts on E/F/G/J/S versions which had petals that ran the entire length of the exhaust (I hope I've made that clear). It's just that I've got some markings for a Korean F-4D and I thought if I ever spotted this kit again I'd grab one, but not if I have to source exhausts from elsewhere! Jens
I believe the C/J set contained both types of afterburner as well as both types of stabs. Jens

Wez
The "RAF Phantom / F-4S" boxing also includes both types of tailpipes. Well that's another option, thanks for the heads up! Wez
Linus
Hi Wez, you don't worry F4C/J and F4S contained both types of afterburner, and both types of stabs, the mistake are on wing. The wing is correct for C, for J it is neccessary to put a panel line, and for S it is neccessary add slatted leading edge, wing fence, and new lights(more big!) you can find good drawings for wings on F4 in action Signal Squadron n°7? or Detail&Scale Pt3 US Navy types, at latter you see jet intakes they have a little mistake, with a little part of plasticard your jet intakes are at TOP!!!! All these corrects are very very easy, Don't forget these items are very good (quality/price) at fast to build. Good Job and I hope to see soon your Phantoms on "work in progress" or "ready for inspection" Bye Linus

I won't be getting around to this any time soon so don't hold your breath waiting for it to appear in RFI, I haven't even got the kit yet! Linus
Wez, no problem, the wing is correct for D, oh by the way, I forget to say that in the box there are also two types of wing pylons for USAF (round ) and US Navy (point). For the variant D check your reference about nose chin pod under radome!!!!!! I hope, you will receive soon the item. For any questions, please contact me.
