Heres a new build of this little beauty!

I'll be use Xtradecal set and markings for a camo one!

So,starting with the cockpit,I added some details, with sheet and wire...

th_DSCF5008_resize.jpg

and detailing a little, those kit seats. My other 5 kits will have resin ones...I dont want to do all this 10 times!

Did anyone knows If i can use full markings on the wings, together with camo?

Also, what color codes are better for this one?

No wing markings of any kind were carried on camouflaged aircraft.

Check the following photos:

As for colours used, I noticed from the scans of the instructions that you posted that Xtradecals gives FS codes.

Unfortunately I cannot make out the numbers. Can you post them please?

Thanks Pano! Great photos and very helpfull!

Aztec seems that had markings on wings for the J-301...

http://z15.invisionfree.com/72nd_Aircraft/index.php?showtopic=3921

Xtradecal says FS20260 - FS20145 - FS25526

Don't know about J-301. Can't find a photo of it either.

Here are some suggestions for colours:

VAL70921-141 Vallejo Model Color - English Uniform FS30145

Lifecolor Acrylic - Bright Blue RLM65 (22ml) FS 35526 LC-UA061

Vallejo MC916 AMARILLO ARENA FS20260 RAL1002916 AMARILLO ARENA FS20260 RAL1002

MMaker, can you please hold on the paints... I have my doubts about those...

Here I recomend that you check out this link, it's in spanish but it has some pic that can be helpfull:

http://editorialmanutara.blogspot.com/2010/04/la-era-del-jet-llega-chile-vampires.html

I recomend that you use:

Brown: Humbrol 186 / FS. 30117

Sand: Humbrol 63 / FS 33245

Light blue: Humbrol 65 / FS 35622

The colors on the Vampire form the link just don't do. I used the ones I recomended in a Marlet, here, just to test them and see if they'll do for a FACH's Vampire (I'm using the Airfix one to!!). I hope it helps you:

Thanks Paulo! Great link!

As for the colors, the lighter looks like a Desert sand in most photos.Im gonna try some mix, like Humbrol 94.

Brown, with a mix of chocolate and Red Brown,

and finally underside.... in the first photo of the link, light blue looks like a Russian interior blue-green,but the next color photo and a thumbnail at the right(J-307) has the familiar light blue shade...

It's the light blue as far my reaserch goes, that pic didn't come just right, but it's one of the few in color. I like your ideas for the color mixes, also we used the Vampires for many years and the desert, salt and wind had a blast with the paint, so let your imagination fly!!

PanzerPaulo

Your timing is superb for me Sir :thanks: I'm building a 1/48 model of the very same scheme in the Obsolete GB and have been trying to find colours that look right. You have saved me a lot of problems.

The aircraft in your linked article and Panoz's pictures look pretty clean, is that normal?

not really, we didn't paint the jets very often and the did serve in the desert... sun, sand, wind.... near the ocean.... you can guess the effect on the paint job.

Those pics were taken on special ocations, like the bleesing of the jets... the day they came back to Santiago to be writen down...stuff like that

I think that some yellow in the sand and some chocolate in the brown, as mmaker says... mine are K4 paints, and I think he didn't make a perfect match, but a small mix to match the jets colors. I really think mmaker ot the idea right!

More progress!

Sprayed Sand with mixes of Gunze Desert Yellow.Mid Stone and Grey36622

th_DSCF5105_resize.jpg

Then masked with patafix for the Brown

Here I used Gunze Dark Earth,Brown H310,Red Brown and Tamiya Desert Yellow, all in various mixes!

th_DSCF5107_resize.jpg

Finally unmasked, but the Tamiya tape lift some small patches of light blue and some more damage....

th_DSCF5111_resize.jpg

At least no damage on the upesides, and masking is good everywhere!

th_DSCF5110_resize.jpg

Should I have it more clean? Like how it looks...

Can I sugest a more yellow sand?.. We call it a "mustard yellow".

I found this picture of a Vampire in the Air Museum:

dhvampire_zps24516fe7.jpg

And the interior of the intakes is pure white.

Hope it helps!

Paulo,im not trusting any museum colors. But this one looking good to me.

My model in real,is like this, just a bit faded...I followed the 1st photo of J-307

Studying all photos, markings seems to be minimal.

Only the rudders,J-3**,squadron badge on the nose and a white stencil below canopy...oh and the number on the nose gear cover(on J-307 only?)

But Xtradecal gives red warning triangles, and red "no step" above flaps...

ops... long weekend played with a bad timing to answer... the red, "ejection" triangles, did go... but you made a wonderfull Chilean Vampire anyway!!!

At the end of the Vampires service, 1980, they didn't use the national marking in the wings.... after all we where the only ones flying that tipe of plane..

Well i do like what i see, let me know if you win a price on the Vampire!!!
