Italian Warbirds part 1

Recommended Posts

Greetings chaps, here you are the pictures of the first two famous Italian Warbirds I built almost in paralel.

This first one is the nice Hasegawa kit of the Macchi C202 built almost OOB. It represents an aircraft from "363^ Squadriglia", "150° Gruppo"-

The emblem on the fuselage, painted on all 150° Gruppo, was in memory of one of his officers killed in action in north Africa that was a famous pre-war gliders olympic champion. The pilot was Luigi (Gigi) Caneppele and the three birds are the emblem of glider pilots. Just add the palm three that represents the desert front and the famous "Gigi tre osei" (Gigi three birds) was born.

The model has been painted with airbrush using Tamiya acrylics.

Comments and suggestions are always welcome. Thanks for looking.

Cheers, Andy

Fantastic,........I love the paintwork!! I have a sideline in building Italian aircraft models because like the sports cars, they just look so right,....but I don`t have an airbrush so have to hand paint them and my finish is nothing like this!,...In fact had been toying with posting some here but your model just proves why I should just keep them to myself,

Excellent,

Tony O

A real Italian thoroughbred. Beautiful!

Each time I see the Macchi I compare its lines to the Spitfire, it's like comparing an Astin Martin to a Ferrari...at the risk of loosing my Italian union card, I prefer the AM & The Spitfire to their Italian counterparts.

Always wanted to put a Spitfire in smoke ring camouflage (with RAF markings, of course) for north Africa. And, the Macchi in BoB markings to see who would notice. A bit of cross dressing - eh?

What beautiful birds!

Would have been better if they only met at Reno. But I digress...
