Brad Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Despite being far busier than one would like over the last month, I've managed squeeze in some modeling time at night to finish off this kit. Although being new mold, I was a little disappointing with the model. I had real trouble with the wings, they just wouldn't fit right and the gap at the fuselage required a fair amount of attention. The panel lines are trenches and overall, parts are just not as crisp as you would expect from a new kit, with mold slip evident on many parts (the 20mm guns were unusable) and detail is a little soft. The good points of the kit are the price and the many options you get; two wings, one for folded and one down, canopy and side door open or closed, control surfaces can be deflected, flaps can be down, rockets or drop tanks, arrestor hook up or down, weighted wheels and the option of wheels up. Decals are nice, but a little thick. Overall, I think Airfix can do a lot better. 7
Rick Brown Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 That's a beautiful finish OM! Is it me or are the prop blades the wrong way round? I apologise if I'm wrong, me eyes aren't working this time in the morning! http://www.deroeck.co.uk/Spitfires-New/Supermarine-Seafire.html Rick. 1

I know exactly how I made that mistake too; I looked at the decal instructions when building the prop and they have drawn it like that. Oh well, too late now. 1

Thanks for the heads-up, I'll try not to make the same mistake if I build one Rick.
planeart Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Wonderfull work!! I wanted to buy that kit myself and surely with your built gave me some leads! I am sorry that the kit is not up to today's standards! An overhall great built!!! well done Brad!!
Stimpy Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 I love that finish. Iv'e done the same on mine with the prop blades, gutted as it was my favourite kit. I found the fit problems around the wing/fuselage join all stem from the cockpit assembly! Try and glue it to one side only, problem solved (i think!). 1
Learstang Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Beautiful build of one of my favourite Spitfires/Seafires! However, It is interesting how your description of this kit differs quite a bit from Alex Gordon's - http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234946712-airfix-seafire-xvii-in-148th-scale/ Is this a lovely kit or a disappointment? Perhaps you got ahold of a "lemon"? Regards, Jason
heloman1 Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Excellent job, I always love the FAA Spitfire derivative, the EDSG/Sky seems to set the lines of nicely along with a set of cranked wings. Congratulations and thanks for sharing your pics. Colin
