Albeback52
. Hi Col. I had considered the Lightning tail. However, I thing the Su-7 tailfin with its rather nice sweeping curves will compliment what will actually be a rather ugly aeroplane. And, it has a convenient brake parachute housing. On a practical level, the joining surface also matches the curvature of the SU-7 rear fuselage. Let's face it, the Lightning was no beauty. I once heard it described as a triumph of brute force over aerodynamics!!. It will DEFINITELY be recognisable as a lightning though. No doubt there. I also had another idea - for a full width nose radome incorporating improved AI radar. Now, what about the intake(s), I hear you ask !! Well, I'll give a clue. Think Sukhoi - T-49 I don't know about Lightning "lite" though!! . It'll still be a big , heavy aeroplane. As a single engine type, it would need something pretty hefty under the bonnet!! Col.
Those are all good points Allan and as for those T-49 style cheek intakes - yes! Fantastic idea

Enzo the Magnificent
I still love 'er though!! It seems that ugly aircraft attract a lot of loyalty. F-4s are just as ugly as Lightnings, but I love 'em both.

I saw a placard next to an F4-F at an airshow which read (as far as I can recall) Phenomenal Humungous and Noisy Total Obliteration Machine! Duncan B
While having failed to manage to finish my Bf109s in time for the only GB I've ever entered I would definitely like to have a go at another Lightning so count me in. (note to self: get your T4 conversion finished first!). Duncan B
Lightningboy2000
Hi Col, can you add me to the list please? I have been known to have my name added to G.B. lists before but not contributed, but I do have a Neomega twin seat T.4 1/72 conversion set arriving for my Trumpeter kit. I don't know of any-one else who has used this Neomega set which gives me even more reason to get involved. I am also itching to get my hands on the imminent Airfix kit. So bring it on! A few words of warning, the exhausts don't fit (too big), the belly tank has the same bloated profile as the Trumpeter kit and the front end on my one had a square shape to one side of the intake. The cockpit detail is nice though. Duncan B
AnonymousDFB1
31? Hey you have double the number you need for a STGB, you should have sung out when you got to 15. Who's hosting. Looks like you'll get the last STGB slot in 2014.

The cockpit detail is nice though. Duncan B Thanks for letting me know! I have the Whirlykits T.4 which I haven't started & thought I would get a more detailed build out of the Neomega conversion instead. I have been put off building any 1/72 Lightning kits so far, simply because I want to build something that's accurate! Not too much to ask is it? You, me and every body else must feel the same way. It's a bit frustrating when multitudes of F-16's, F-18's, F-14's, Spitfires, Mustangs and 109's are produced to near perfection, but our most cherished mach-2 fighter has been seriously neglected for far too long. I would like to see pics of your current efforts with your 1/72 Neomega set so far! Could you start a seperate thread for it? Martin
