Col.
You keep this up and it'll be a topic worth pinning for reference. Lovely work so far.
SLoB
A short while ago I acquired the old SAM that included a feature on the Javelin. In it there are these line drawings. So far I have found nothing else to show the navigators area. Hope this is of some help.
Ex-FAAWAFU
Lovely work - amazing how agricultural it all looks now, isn't it (that's the real thing, not your beautiful modelling!)? Same with the Vixen. When I were a lad this was cutting edge stuff, but the thought of trying to track anything on that tiny radar when some trained monkey was whanging the thing about the sky at high speed... Spikelhund
Very nice work, it sure will look busy when your done. Cheers...
canberra kid
The only thing I have on the U/C is some AP type drawings. I have this from the Mk.9 PN's John
AnonymousAA72
A great start. The seats are looking really good...they're just crying out for some decent ejection handles......some thin wire perhaps? They can be posed in a more realistic manner maybe? crobinsonh
Thanks to everyone for their comments. Thanks to SLoB and John for the images of the rear cockpit. I did a little more work on the Ejector seats adding some parachute pack detail out of foil. I have also done some more work on the rear console but then promptly broke the Waldron Sub Die punch that I needed. I have emergency ordered another one from Hannants - wow are they expensive not! The details on the rear cockpit console seems to be a bit softer than the front cockpit consoles. More pictures when I get the set and make more progress. general melchett
Wow great stuff Col, you're working wonders on the 'pit. ............. looking forward to progress, John's a mine of info on these early jets. I really must get one of these beasties, feel the urge to build a stubby FAW 8. As you say the detail looks a little soft in places but easily dealt wit. I'm sure just as you finish all this great work, Eduard and Aires will come along and do their thing...
canberra kid
That's really looking the business! I'll defiantly be using your build as reference, it's good to see the photos translated in to 3D. I'm itching to get at mine but I'm tied down with B.57 production until after the Nat's, but I think it could be a post Nat's project, unless I get the urge to build a Canberra John

crobinsonh
Ok - I am calling this done, I have used as much of the reference as I can find and used what has very kindly been provided in this thread. Next stop is wheel bays and painting. You are right Andy about Aires and Eduard - hopefully it will be just as I finish the model. I also need to write to Airfix as I now have a short nose javelin courtesy of one of the dogs taking a fancy to the nose cone. Very strange as this has never happened before.

Navy Bird
Strange indeed, but certain marks of our canine friends have quite a taste for styrene. Mine even like photoetch. Share the story and I'm sure Airfix will gladly send you a new nose cone! Cheers, Bill
AnonymousAA72
Stonking!!! Seats looking great....the 'pit looks fantastic, some excellent detail in there. Superb!!! ......its just those ejection seat handles.......they look so thick. If you don't fancy replacing them, how about thinning them down a bit? crobinsonh
Thanks everyone. Bill - that is a very good point that I had missed. I will replace them with wire when I paint them.

crobinsonh
Only had an hour for modelling time so I started planning some additional details for the U/C bays and also thinning the vortex generators on one of the wings. I went for a compromise so that they retained some strength over accuracy. Hence they are sanded to a tall pyramid shape instead of a rectangle. Col.
That seems a fair compromise and another I'll be using on my own kit. More inspiring work. It is, of course, your fault I walked out of my local model shop £40 lighter with one of these under my arm. You and that Mike with his reviews... general melchett
Great work on the vg's Col, good Lord they look a bit on the thick side oob ! They'll have to go.. Sorry to hear about the nose cone, my little fella had the same affliction and for no reason singled out an innocent new Airfix Lanc canopy for demolition...he's been in the dog house ever since, after I explained the situation to Mr Airfix he kindly sent a replacement post haste, got it in two days, wonderful service !
robvulcan
Watching this is not helping me resist the temptation to buy it. I hope they do a 1/72 version. But I do love javelins and I'm guessing this must be about the size of a 1/72 Vulcan
Norman
Hello there, great build so far , really nicely done, i mentioned this on Tim's build thread elsewhere on the forum I am building a Javelin at the moment and have noticed as i was assembling the wings and ailerons that the ailerons when put together the trailing edges are about twice the thickness of the actual wing edges, so i have sanded these down quite a lot in thickness to match the wing i did read that they increased thickness of Javelin trailing edges to 2 inches but even at this scale i feel they look odd maybe thats just me !!!!!! Anyway don't want to sound like i'm preaching as i am pretty sure you will notice it and alter it if you feel it right to do so , just sand BEFORE gluing !! Cheers mate
