H2s on lancasters

As far as I know H2S was standard on Lancs at the end of the war.

The only exception being 6 Group who were keen on having an under gun. generally a 50 calibre, as a defence against "schragemusik." Even then I have seen photos of 6 Group Lancs with H2S.

The fuselage of the Lanc, unlike the Stirling was not long enough to fit both so it was one or the other.

Of course, earlier in the war the limited supply of the sets meant that only certain squadrons could be equipped. Those in 8 Group being some of the first in line of course.

Given that most if not all of the extra length of the Stirling given over to bombbay, how did they manage to fit both H2S and a gun position? Johnen's biography does mention combat with a Stirling which had an undergun position, but I've not seen photos of one in place.

Only some 6 Grp squadrons had a ventral gun on their Lancs. I would say the majority of squadrons were H2S equipped. Cheers.
