Yes would love to see a 10 Squadron Neptune ever since seeing the Frog boxing of the Hasegawa Neptune with those markings for a Townsville (now renamed "Underwaterville") based 10 Squadron machine.

Have you started a Build Thread yet?

Nothing done yet although found everything, I think

Hopefully it will stop soon and start receding and begin drying out.

Dazdot / Robert, when I launched into the Matchbox GB in 2017 with two (maybe three) Heinkel He115's, @tonyot

suggested - 'The RAF flew some ex Norwegian He 115`s for Special Duties,..... flying agents to Norway and also from Malta to N.Africa, if you fancy something a little different.....

I always fancied doing the last He115 in coastal command type colours and there seems to be a local connection as I have come across a thread which talks about one of the 'captured' He115's seen at or operating out of Woodhaven on the Tay, which is directly opposite my boyhood home of Dundee (last featured on BM in 'Achtung, Spitfeur!')

I think I should be able to build a case for including an He115 in this GB - what do you think? (Oh no...I've just remembered that I also have the ex Frog / Revell version of the He115 tucked away and always wanted to build it as a 'comparison'....)

Can you make that more clearly Coastal Command, or Maritime Patrol?

Which squadron were they with?  If it was Coastal Command, then yes go ahead (see Tonyot's Very Special Dakota for a related cross over).

Don't forget, there's a flying boat build comming up at the end of August.

I will make it 'Coastal Commmand'. RAF Woodhaven (on the River Tay) opened in February 1942 as the base for 1477 Flight, Royal Norwegian Air Force, and their Catalina flying boats would become a familiar sight on the Tay for the next three years. The Norwegians, like their compatriots crewing submarines operating from Dundee, had all escaped from occupied Norway, many of them making hazardous passages across the North Sea in small boats so they could take the fight back to the enemy.

1477 Flight was absorbed into a new, much larger unit, 333 Squadron in May 1943 with one flight continuing to operate the Catalinas out of Woodhaven and another, operating from Leuchars, equipped with Mosquito fighter-bombers. The squadron was tasked with hunting down U-boats operating from bases in occupied Norway against the Atlantic convoy routes and attacking enemy shipping convoys off the Norwegian coast.

Finn Lambrechts, the squadron’s first commander, and his flight engineer, Hans Ronningen, had flown the northern route of the Norwegian Airline DNL before they escaped from the Germans, as many others did by a variety of routes finally leading to Britain. Commander Lambrechts had observed that German defences were weak along the coast of Heligoland so that it would be possible to put agents ashore to watch and report on German coastal shipping. His proposal to form a unit was supported by the Norwegians and finally received the approval of Coastal Command.

Woodhaven was chosen as the base because of its relatively isolated location which served the need for secrecy, and Catalinas – designed for anti submarine warfare and convoy escort duties – were chosen for the work. Norwegians from all over the world provided the ground crews, flight engineers and other staff needed. Initially the unit was a detachment from 210 Squadron RAF Coastal Command designated No 1477 Flight.

To this day, Norwegians still visit Woodhaven and the Norwegian flag is flown on Norwegian National Day, maintaining a tradition started by Mr Rankine after the war.

Over 850 photos taken by 333 Squadron, Royal Norwegian Air Force during their stay at Woodhaven 1942 - 1945. They are reproduced here with thanks to Gerd Garnes, their owner.

The photos include a Heinkel He115 operating in RAF markings so that is the one I will try to reproduce.

We are down to the last day, anyone going to get their build over the line? My P-8 won't make it as I have been distracted by an older build I have regained enthusiasm for.

The P-8 will be finished by November though.

Right then, get you builds done!

Okey dokey!  :)

My four are in the gallery.  Finishing on the last day of a GB is becoming the norm for me.

What an excellent GB.  I've thoroughly enjoyed it even if I did go a bit mad with my builds.  Many thanks to Romeo Alpha Yankee and Robert Stuart for doing the cat herdage on this one.

Well, everyone, the group build is now complete, thanks for contributing to a successful Maritime Patrol and Coastal Command Group Build.

We had a wonderful variety of entries with 46 threads started and 28 completed, 20 Maritime Patrol subjects and 8 Coastal Command subjects.

Thanks to all who contributed and also those who visited and offered support to the participants.

The poll is now open and will accept votes up until midnight on 3 April (8 days from now).

Since we had over the 25 built limit for the poll question I have divided the poll into 2 questions, one for Maritime Patrol and one for Coastal Command. You can vote for one model in each category OR just one model in either category if you wish.

Of course, we would like to see those unfinished builds in the RFI subforum one day and you can also update your threads here.

Thanks again for participating!

Your Mods, Robert and Ray

And that's a wrap!

The Poll is now closed.

Congratulations to @Pin for his 1/72 AirKits Chetverikov Che-2/MDR-6 in the Maritime Patrol section for receiving the highest votes.

The Coastal Command Section was tied for first place with @tonyot's/72 Airfix Douglas Dakota KP208, RAF Coastal Command Communications Flight and @Dansk's 1/48 DeHavilland Mosquito F VI, HR116, 333(Norwegian) Sqn RAF, Coastal Command.

Well done to all who contributed. See you in 2025 for the next one! :D
