David Womby
I am researching possible schemes for the Meteor F8 I am building and found this intriguing tease on endpaper in MFJ Bowyer's Fighting Colours. The endpaper shows line drawings of the colourful tail markings used by various squadron leaders on their Meteors - F8s and NFs. One is described as follows: 'WK927*, personal all dark-green mount of Sir Richard Atcherley and part of 12 Group Flight 1953-57.' I know who Atcherley was but does anybody have a picture of this 'all dark-green' Meteor F8, please? David * serial corrected - thanks, Graham. David Womby
WK297 was a Swift FR5! Duh! Transposition error on my part. Should be WK927. Original post corrected. Thanks, Graham. David
rod mcq
There is a b/w photo of the aircraft on page 241 of "Cold War Shield" Volume 1 by Roger Lindsay. According to the caption the Meteor is finished on overall glossy Dark Green. It has a 2 star insignia in white on blue below the cockpit. It is known that at one time the aircraft had the initials R A flanking the fuselage roundels - these are not present in the photo..
