Selwyn
Gents All the references I have say that the Fairey Battle that is currently residing in the Brussels aviation museum originally came from Canada via the Strathallan collection, and its identity is L3950. However This serial number was never used as far as I can see, it was in one of the L series unused Blackout blocks. The L series battles started at L49XX. I initially thought it was a typo and it was L4950, but L4950 crashed and was destroyed (burnt out) during the battle of France in 1940. I suppose that the airframe was a composite of a few aircraft component but has Anybody got any information they could add to clarify this? XV107
I think it's R3950 - http://www.bamfbamrs.be/Battle/FaireyBattleR3950.htm - rather than L3950.
Selwyn
I think it's R3950 - http://www.bamfbamrs.be/Battle/FaireyBattleR3950.htm - rather than L3950. That explains it. This error, "L" instead of "R" seems to be repeated many times in Battle references! Many thanks, Selwyn
