LOL, Iron Man with a badge is exactly what I thought when I saw the trailer.

The unarmoured hand bothers me greatly, looks naff and I can't see why it's been done. But then again, why even go near Robocop for remake? Can't be improved in any way shape or form, the first movie was and is a total classic that is still watchable now if you ignore the 80's clothes and big glasses.

Still, I'm quite glad the metallic blue and black has been kept.

Is Hollywood so devoid of creativity that all they can produce is remakes and endless sequels?

I don't know why they thought this needed remaking

It's not a question of whether it needs remaking. I don't think it does. The question is whether there is money to be made from recycling the idea - and clearly the producers think there is.

Hollywood hasn't had an original idea in decades. Look at anything they've made in the last few years and with very few exceptions, it's either some kind of remake, some kind of sequel, or just a poor copy of a foreign film. They are especially keen on stealing ideas from Japan's (and other Asian) film makers and watering them down to what they think the American public wants to see.

The Ring and Ring 2 were classic examples. Terrific films in the original language but appalling in Hollywoodese!

I'm a great horror film fan, but all the best horror and suspense films I have watched in the last two or three years have been Japanese and Korean, and maybe a smidgin of independents.

I agree it's on of those films that doesn't need remaking but having said that the design elements look okay to me a little bit like a cross between robocop and a cylon! The cast seems pretty decent too although any of the satire and humour seems to have evaporated and it looks like there might be some kind of clumsy analogy for drones/unmanned vehicles.

I'm holding fire on this until I see it. I do know that it was shot early last year and is only coming out in 2014. I have a feeling that the long delay could be a very bad sign (maybe they made a big mess of it and have pushed back the release to give them time to fix it?)

I very much agree that the original film did not need to be re-made. I guess that's Hollywood for you...

Cheers.

Chris.

Eye Candy.....But that's all I suspect.

Haven't seen any worthwhile Sci-Fi films from Hollywood in ages.....They've all suffered from terminal imagination failure.

How about some proper cyberpunk? Walter John Williams' 'Hardwired' would make an epic romp, or maybe they could have another go at William Gibson's work and hopefully do a better job than they did on 'Johnny Pneumonic', even the complex (by Hollywood standards) 'Neuromancer' or 'Idoru' series would work in the hands of someone like Ridley Scott. B)

Ridley Scott could also probably cope with Iain M Banks' work.....I wouldn't trust any lesser mortal to even try to make a film of 'Excession', while James Cameron might be able to pull off the pretty stuff, he'd lose the message (& Banks always has a message) or turn it into a saccharine syrup.

Richard Morgan. The Altered Carbon series.

Love those books. The Images!

Special effects could really go to town.

Superb stories too.

Pete

I'm reading 'Altered Carbon' right now. :coolio:

How about Neal Stephenson's 'Snowcrash'.....Tell me that wouldn't make an epic movie! :P

I'm reading 'Altered Carbon' right now.

I could do with re-sleeving! Not wearing too well!

Those books are a brilliant concept.

Another book I thought of would be Icerigger - Alan Dean Foster

Or even, And I think Special effects nowadays are good enough,

Anne McCaffrey. The Dragon books. At least ten films out of that lot.

Huge cult following & Merchandising prospects

Pete

BTW, I tried IMB years ago & couldn't get into them.

How about 'Hothouse' by Brian Aldiss.....Filmed like Avatar (but not even slightly toned down for the masses)! :coolio:

It would be great if they could do it with an all star cast.....The gasps of disbelief as Johnny Depp or Noomi Rapace are arbitrarily reduced to a bloody smear mid sentence would be worth the admission price on their own!

Don Satllone's Judge Dredd was a travesty! :fraidnot:

It was wrong on so many levels that anything would be better.

Dredd on the other hand is a great piece of film work and does the 200AD's character justice.(no pun intended)

I don't think you can class it as a remake as the first film was just pants!
