Looking for photos of two No. 92 RAF Squadron pilots - Alan Wright's and Ted Brister's

Hi everybody

As in the title I'm looking for the photos of those two pilots' aircraft.

I have A.Price's book Spitfire Mk.I/II Aces where I found a very small photo of Spitfire Mk.I QJ-S from Pembrey. Unfortunately it's not very clear and it doesn't show much detail, especially the shape of code letters. Does anyone have better quality photo of this aircraft.

The other pilot I'm interested in is Ted Brister. I found one photo on http://www.cs.kent.ac.uk/people/staff/djb/92squadron/ but it doesn't show the whole plane. Can anyone help me to solve the serect of the name on the tank? Is it Tuppny or Tuppmy?

Thanks for help.

Dominik

I wouldn't see an 'M' here even if I wanted to :).

This one? I'm in no mood to go downstairs for the book ;)

Code letters shape. Summer 1940 too. I should say the last Spitfire in the pic above is the very same craft.

So 'P' on her belly must be (or rather I presume is) 31 August.

Love that first shot- I'm going to take 'S' for a hop- would anyone care to join me?

bob

Correct bob,31 August.

P/N3249 is Titch Havercroft's after he bent it night landing it at Pembrey.

She was repaired and went to 602 in November.

S/R6596 is Alan Wright's,so you'd best check first bob,but if he says yes,then I'll borrow Titch's

at the far end.

So do you mean that the shape of the "hook" in letter Q was the same as in Havercroft's Spitfire during the Battle? I know some photos taken after the battle wher the "hook" had different shape (as in Mk Vb QJ-S).

So it's Tuppny - thanks for help. So now only to find the photos of this airplane.

  • 1 year later...

I am trying to put together a list of aircraft during the BoB for the "Famous Few"

A. Wright

G. Wellum

B. Kincombe

There are over 600 names, but I am trying to wittle it down to my next MkI or perhaps even MkII (in 1/32) project

This link show climbing out of a Spit that is not in the normal QJ markings

http://sirius1935.wix.com/92squadron#!ww-2/cj2j

Could anyone comment on the correctness of this page:

http://www.asisbiz.com/il2/Spitfire/MkI-RAF-92Sqn-QJ.html

Thanks

Previous to be being coded QJ 92 was coded GR, this changed about June 1940, as can be seen by the yellow ring, introduced May 1940

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No._92_Squadron_RAF

GR (1939 – May 1940)

QJ (May 1940 – Dec 1946)

asisbiz is useful for photos, but profiles are profiles, as are game skins.
