Pappy
G'day people, I recently finished my 1/35 Academy RQ-7B "Shadow" with some modifications to the basic kit to better represent an Australian Army machine. Australian Army machines feature extended wingtips and additional antenna arrays compared to the standard machines. depicted on the kit. I began by sanding off the wingtip detail and gluing some styrene blocks. Once the glue had dried, these were sanded to the same profile as the wing section. The antenna array bases were added from some aerofoil strut section. I also cut out the flaps and re-attached them in the dropped position. The avionics bay access hatch was very carefully cut off and the avionics bay contents were scratch built. Additional avionics components were added to the avionics bay access hatch roof. Other detail additions include the replacement of flight control actuator rods with finer items made from stretched sprue and the fabrication of the under fuselage arresting hook. The model was painted with Gunze acrylics and the kit stencils were used. I also used the decals sheet produced by Southern Sky decals for the specific machine. Although these performed very well, The camouflage pattern shown in the instructions is incorrect. Additionally, there are not enough UAV serial number stencils provided. The serial number is also repeated on each wing tip in a smaller font size, but these were not included in the decal sheet. Overall, this is a relatively quick and easy kit to build straight out of the box, and it provides a very nice basis from which to add more detail, cheers, Pappy p.s It is a good way to build a large scale aircraft kit without taking up a lot of room! colin
Well you've certainly built a very nicely detailed model there and some clever scratch work , as for large scale I'm not so sure.Where do you get those 2.5ilr tins of Humbrol from anyway
AndyC
Having built that earlier this year, that's a very impressive piece of work on what is quite a small kit! Great looking interior - I built mine shut as I was actually looking forward to building something where I wouldn't have to bother with a cockpit!
