Andrew1997
Many countries used the Mustang after world war 2, even the USA. I bought an Airfix quick build P-51D but want to do it in a post-WW2 scheme with standard decals that I dont have to order or make. Please, any suggestions would be welcome. Btw I was thinking Navy (US or UK) and COIN aircraft (US or UK). Thanks
Test Graham
No Navy - well, there was one for trials with the USN - and no postwar British use, but the widest US (Australian and South African) use was in Korea. Transfers are provided in the new Airfix release: if you don't want to buy or make any it's far from clear what to suggest.
Jennings Heilig
Royal Navy P-51s? In what universe? The Sea Horse with folding wings!?!?
Giorgio N
The Italeri kit includes a Korean war USAF aircraft and a post war New Zealand one. You could look for one of these kits and use the decals
Wolfpack
When you say 'standard decals', do you mean what's in the kit or what you have spare? Google F-51 and go from there. It's pointless asking folk for suggestion on how to get somewhere when you don't know where you're going. Once you leave the 'comfort zone' of the in box decals, your first task is research. Truro Model Builder
How about a Rhodesian Air Force F-51D circa 1976 in dark earth/dark green camouflage and dark earth undersides? The only markings would be a serial number on the rear fuselage. Rhodesia was desperate to get aircraft and it would not stretch reality too much to envisage some being purchased from one of the South American air forces in the early 1970s. Just a thought. Mike Esposito
F-51s were in wide use after WWII with ANG units: Chasing UFOs ect....
Bari
You could do this one, Academy F51D in Korean markings. It comes with a nice little jeep as well. Edited September 4, 2013 by Bari
Max Headroom
If using the Academy one, make sure it's not the one with 7 exhaust stubs per side! You could always do an Alaskan ANG example with lots of Artic Red wing tips an tail. Trevor
Giorgio N
postwar ANG Mustangs carried some very interesting and colourful markings. I'd definitely choose one of those
