georgeusa
Greeting page 57. Look we are getting there g-usa. And you were ready to finish and give it up around page 40. Don't be a slacker, only 43 more pages to go to fame, glory and immortality!!! Isn't AA worth it. I am sure he would be fine with the fame and glory. (Ya know rhymes with gory, death destruction mayhem. Hmmmm. . . seems Daleks are more into mayhem and not so much into pillage and plunder. Without the pillage and plunder, what is the use of mayhem? Pillage and plunder gives a purpose to mayhem and makes it a bit logical. Mayhem alone and by itself seems to be indicative of mental instability. I prefer my world domination characters have some sort of mental stability, rather than just a crazy loon in a hyped up teapot suit creating random mischief with its deadly toilet plunger.)
Pete in Lincs
Pillage and Plunder! If it was good enough for the Vikings It's good enough for me. Right. Nobody mention the SPAM song. Or they WILL be exterminated. Or, Nigel will go back & un-introduce their parents! Pete

And once again, forced to the internet to find out what the crap is the SPAM song. SIGHHHHH.
Pete in Lincs
Aha, Gotcha! It must be better than working? Hope you were intrigued by the scribblings of Sir Terry Pratchett. Regards Pete

Regards Pete No, I am doing all of this instead of working which is not setting a good example here. I was very intrigued by Discworld and will probably dip into it. Zoom the title song from the kids show (watched the intro song for 6 seasons, a delight); Zoom from the Commodores; Zoom from the Temptations; Zoom from Fat Larry; Zoom from Lil Boosie; Zoom by the Collegians; Zoom song by Ashley Tisdale; Zoom the movie; Zoom by Dr. Zoom and the Sonic Boom; see why I am Dazed and Confused. Too much information overload.

Brilliant writer with a good comedic touch, I love the way he lampoons the real world in his discworld series, with some subtle twists. Nigel Heath
Dalek Diary - Day 81 There are still some jobs to do, like removing marks like this which I think is a slight smear of epoxy: I am not very happy with the underside of the dome, with the epoxy going off so fast I did not have time to get it how I wanted it. It is a bit of a mess really: For my dinner I fancied a pie so I cooked this along with some nice buttery mashed potato and homemade gravy (anyone want the recipe?): The pie was actually rather nice so I thought you might like to have more information on it: "Beef Steak & London Porter Ale Pie with Shortcrust Pastry" to be exact. I had thought about tidying up the epoxy with more epoxy - using the slow setting stuff from B & Q this time (which I had decided to keep). I even got as far as getting out a mixing vessel and then had a change of heart. The glue that was there was more than adequate from a structural point of view and smearing around more epoxy could be a recipe for disaster so I elected to just tidy things up with some of the bathroom sealant: This was then cleaned up with wet fingers and sponges to this level: Still not the neatest thing in the world but hopefully an improvement. It won't be seen that often anyway. That can harden up overnight and it will be back to the red oxide primer in the morning. Tomorrow is the big day of course, my final deadline, will I get it all done tomorrow? I know the answer of course but you will have to wait and see. Bye for now, Nigel
georgeusa
So how many times did you have to go back and forth in time to get it right? And, how did you determine it was righ?. Could you imagine what would happen if a totally anal retentive person and/or perfectionist did have the ability to go back in time. Would they ever get past a certain point. No matter how well they did something, would they keep choosing to go back in time and do it over until it became perfect. And perfection, being unobtainable, they would always find something that they could have done/should have done better. An endless time loop.
Nigel Heath
Hi g-usa, I am still very much a novice at this time travelling malarkey and I am sure if I was better at it I would have eliminated all my errors from the time line - you would never have known about them. I am not a perfectionist - I used to think I was until I came across Oliver's thread. Now I have to recognise my own limitations and be happy with what I can produce and just hope the next one will be that little bit better.

Nigel Heath
Would you believe that the mesh infill had detached for the fifth time? I mixed up some more medium viscosity superglue and then the other side let go, Grrrrr. I fixed and clamped like this: This component is clearly a slow learner and will be put into a special needs stream. This is what AA looks like with his brains hanging out: This is what the back face of the PCB looks like after Alistair's attention: I have to admit his work makes mine look like that of a shambling amature. He is removed from the extermination list - one has to respect a fellow soldier even if he is on the opposite side. He has also added solder pins, sieving and wiring coding to the other side which looks extremely fine indeed: I will of course pick this up in the morning. Kallisti
Should you just not solder the mesh together?
Nigel Heath
(Kallisti are you mental?) - Sorry I do not mean to be rude. The mesh is aluminium. It is possible to solder it with great difficulty but not under these circumstances.

Nigel Heath
It will be appearing soon on Nigel's Nosh. I just tried to give you a like but was told I had reached my maximum quota for likes today - and its only nine o'clock. I did not realize there was a daily limit on likes, sorry about that BD. There you go, you have one now. Edited November 23, 2013 by Nigel Heath
Nigel Heath
Dalek Diary - Day 82 First interim build update. I masked up the dome base like this: Some red primer was quickly applied: In anticipation of the flat inspection I had had to put away my airbrushing sation: Note the fine red mist of overspray on the floor, I think they missed that. My dinky set up was soon re-established: It was a nice morning here so I could open the doors for better ventilation, bit nippy though so I wore a fleece. I applied the gloss red which turned out all patchy, almost like there was silicone present - I have no idea how, grrrr: Clearly another coat will be required. Here it is under a DDS: I now have to go out and get some shopping, fuel and visit my local scrap metal merchant. The poor paint has put a spanner in my build schedule - will it be finished today? This is nail biting stuff. Bye for now, Nigel
albertross
Hi Nigel, with regards the aluminium mesh there is a product called Devcon Aluminium putty, which is an epoxy filled with aluminium particles which cures to a dull silver. It may be possible to create your own version with a metallic acrylic paint mixed into the epoxy. I have no idea have no idea if this would affect the cure time or stop it all together. Hope this helps and keep up the great work. Regards David
Nigel Heath
Thanks for the suggestion David, the medium viscosity superglue that I mixed up seems to be holding now so I think it will be OK. Second interim build update. Here is said mesh: On returning from my shopping expidition I made myself a restorative cup of tea and laid out some of my key purchases: The battery is to replace the one in AA as Alistair informed me it had dropped to just five Volts and had had it - leaving the eye LED on all day at the model railway show probably hastened its demise significantly.. The popcorn is for AA and I to share when we watch the Dr Who special this evening. The roll is for a salmon spread roll for my dinner and the jam doughnut is for afters. I had to go to a specialist Oriental grocers for the tin of coconut milk, its small size of 165ml is ideal for a free agent like myself as I would struggle to use up a 400ml tin, its just for the store cupboard. Now it had hardened up a bit I bathed the dome base in some infra red radiation to speed up the process in the usual fashion: To speed up the flash rate I decided to replace the 100k resistors with 47k ones, again I have robust stocks: But only this many of the miniature type I require for this project, its nice to see some more aqua ones popping up, I will use those: Here they are soldered in place, I try to up my soldering game to match Alistair's efforts: And from the front: Now of course I want to test it but to do that I will have to attach the dome but the paint is a little tacky still: I will go off and do some domestic chores while it gets on with its business.
