Attitude Adjustor the Dalek - Is Now Finished

Recommended Posts

Needs a voice synthesizer. How much fun would it be to have a remote microphone and the first inquiring mind that attempts to put his hands on AA is told not to touch or be exterminated. Great fun. Have a pirate figure 6 feet tall (or 18 hands high thought you would like a new measurement scale Nigel) with a built in voice box I use at Halloween to scare off teenagers much too old to be trick or treating. AA needs a voice!!!

I was just looking at one of these last night and bookmarking sound clips...

Hi Steve, thanks for asking. I still have to build the base which is a project in itself. After that I am thinking of a Revell Arado Ar 555 if the Luft '46 group build get off the ground.

May I possibly be the first to enquire, Mr Heath.... Whats next?

How are you going to fill your life when AA is built?

steve

You could say how are we going to fill our lives..... mind you I suppose I/we could get back to finishing our own builds, it's been great watching this come together Nigel.

Glen.

"So AA will definately have a home somewhere at the show. He is getting very excited about it all, he has never been to a show and is now talking about little else. He is especially excited about meeting the full size Daleks and catching up on events in the wider Dalek universe."

Did you ever see that Anthony Hopkins film "Magic" about a ventriloquist and his dummy ? . Does this scenario worry you at all Nigel

Dalek Diary - Day 63

I gathered all the parts required for dome construction:

P1020586_zps687db80e.jpg

When I did a test fit with the eye I found it was lose, so much for my ideas of paint build up and gluing in bits of fag packet paper.

So I started to make some packers out of the 20 thou black plasticard using a 24mm diameter hollow punch:

P1020587_zps68a18bbd.jpg

There goes another bit of black plastic, lost somewhere in the kitchen (none of the others have turned up either, I think they may be under the fridge).

I trimmed to size using the cut outs in the fag paper as a guide:

P1020588_zps6319d04c.jpg

Another fit check indicated they were miles too thick so I started to thin them down:

P1020589_zps62e14a8d.jpg

When they were paper thin I glued them in with thin superglue and wedged with the eye stalk:

P1020590_zpsb5e4583f.jpg

While that was setting I went for my bath and dinner.

I instigated my austere toast based regime; with cheese tonight. One with capers and Worcestershire sauce and the other with tomato ketchup:

P1020591_zps1f71a4af.jpg

Here you can see one of the packers:

P1020592_zps0ac6d862.jpg

Things were still tight so I sanded some material off the back of the pivot, put a point on the pivot pin and shortened it:

P1020593_zps5a83cc3e.jpg

I managed to get it together after a bit of a tussle, the eye was nice and stiff now.

Now I had to thread through the blue LED wires. Again after much fiddling I got this thin steel rod through the slot in the pivot:

P1020594_zps557078dd.jpg

I then soldered the LED wires to it:

P1020595_zpsc05ceac2.jpg

First try: the wire broke:

P1020596_zps80aad950.jpg

Second try: one wire came off. But at least it was proof of concept:

P1020597_zps5f80aefc.jpg

Third try: sucess:

P1020598_zps3e173a16.jpg

Here is the LED just before its leads disappear forever:

P1020599_zps9b143955.jpg

Here is its final resting place:

P1020600_zpsb45da197.jpg

The eye is a good fit on the stalk and I could have left it lose but I decided to add some Gator glue to the affair

P1020601_zps7c2104d9.jpg

With nothing too permanent it could at least be removed if necessary.

As I said the eye was nice and stiff and could be moved up here:

P1020602_zps70b2356b.jpg

or down here:

P1020603_zps5bccd7dd.jpg

Sweet. That will be a lot of fun to play with in future years.

I could now solder this to the plug. When doing such things it is important to remember to thread the heat shrink tubing onto the wires first. I seem to have run out of black stuff so used this white type instead:

P1020604_zpsaf7db9a4.jpg

This was activated with my spirit burner in the usual fashion. Note that I am keeping comprehensive records of what wires go where:

P1020605_zps5f0ce528.jpg

When I was carefull installing the lights that crappy GS Hypo cement let go again...Grrrr:

P1020606_zpsad5c4d02.jpg

I losely installed the plug in the dome base:

P1020607_zpsd81bba75.jpg

Fitting it onto the neck I got it into the correct orientation. Note that I had by now glued in the lights with five minute epoxy but that silly light had come off yet agian - Grrrrrrr:

P1020608_zpsfa3501df.jpg

I reglued it and became part of a human clamping system with added heat input to try to minimise the boredom:

P1020609_zps304cf133.jpg

Before gluing on the dome base I thought it was prudent to conduct a thorough series of electrical tests, here is one of them:

P1020610_zps99754aba.jpg

All the others were good too.

Say goodbye to the dome interior, hopefully this is the last time we will see it:

P1020611_zps98694e18.jpg

I then applied five minute epoxy and became another human clamp:

P1020612_zpsb617d0e2.jpg

Sorry about the rubish picture, not sure what happened there.

Apart from a little cleaning and polishing I can now declare dome construction complete:

P1020613_zps81d8a8b0.jpg

Looks quite nice and AA is very happy.

I may get some more done tonight but as suggested by Steve I am now going to have a lie down.

Bye for now,

Nigel

I fail to see the point you are trying to make here unless it is to imply that AA does not exist. I know that not everyone has a Dalek as a pet but I can assure you that he is very real. I will post some pictures of him at our bonfire night party tomorrow night to prove it.

There is a little bit more to come.

I did actually find the little bit of black plastic:

P1020614_zpsea0d59ff.jpg

With the plug installed the dome base does look quite spacy but it has creaks which I do not like:

P1020615_zps82129f9a.jpg

To get rid of the creaky plastic I mixed up some more epoxy and used a syringe to suck it up:

P1020616_zpsac0c0e89.jpg

I then squeezed it out around the base:

P1020617_zps71dd6ad6.jpg

I then smoothed that around with kitchen paper soaked in white spirit.

The dome now fits quite nicely on the neck:

P1020618_zps8c8ff3de.jpg

I let AA climb inside and he reports all systems are looking good:

P1020619_zps2e834a18.jpg

Bye for tonight,

Nigel

So, The Arado.....

Thick wings. They need intakes, then exhausts ala Vulcan. gets rid of those silly engines on top.

Then, Extend the fuselage for extra tanks to make up for lost room in the wings.

Then you'll need canards.

Then......

Too soon?

Oh.

Later

Dalek Diary - Day 64

Before anything else happens tonight AA insists that we have our firework party, you know the routine "Obey, obey, obey" etc. First the sparklers, he sees this as an important field test for his "Thermic Lance" project and gives him an opportunity to gather valuable data:

P1020624_zpsbc8be347.jpg

He thought they looked pretty too.

Next was the Vampire Fountain:

P1020626_zps203cd9a9.jpg

He liked this a lot and said it reminded him of the continuously erupting fire volcano of Stromzolixx on Skaro.

Now it was time for my dinner, still on the spartain toast based rations, this time with poched eggs:

P1020621_zps035129ad.jpg

I will post here and update on construction later.

I am sorry chaps, Photobucket appears to be broken at the moment so I am unable to upload any of the photos of the marvellous things that were achieved tonight. I will keep trying.

Bye for now,

Nigel

They have now posted a message saying the site is down for maintenance work. Most annoying, at least I got my firework photos posted. If not tonight, I will get them on line early tomorrow.

It is all working again now so I can post an update.

The key task for tonight was to get some satin black on the skirt base, I masked it like this:

P1020629_zps8c07b8e8.jpg

P1020630_zps0cb2b937.jpg

This pipette had split and had to be consigned to the modelling bin:

P1020631_zps6db12357.jpg

Here is the satin black applied and drying:

P1020632_zps39150370.jpg

I will demask tomorrow.

I think you need an update on my special modelling bin:

P1020633_zpsde55c416.jpg

Laminated SMW cards were rejected because of spellling mistakes. I now have corrected replacements.

I am now working in the short slats, I will give an update tomorrow night.

Bye from AA and I,

Nigel
