brewerjerry
Hi All, I tried googling, but little info,so trying here Apparently it had a streamlined nose and two stage packhard merlin 301 engines, might only have been one built any info welcome, i cant even find the serial number .... cheers Jerry
stevehnz
looking here it would seem to have been a Canadian produced version of the FB.VI with packard Merlin 301, 2 begun only one completed. It says nothing about any differences in airframes. Steve.
brewerjerry
Hi thanks for the reply this site mentions a streamlined nose, last paragraph. but i can find no info on it or the serial cheers Jerry http://www.museevirtuel-virtualmuseum.ca/sgc-cms/histoires_de_chez_nous-community_memories/pm_v2.php?id=story_line&lg=English&fl=0&ex=00000430&sl=3192&pos=
stevehnz
Have another look at that site. Use the little arrows in the middle to scroll thru it right arrow forwards & left arrow backwards, there is a picture of the FB. MK24 on page 19 or here if you'd rather. Hard to tell if the nose is longer or just got no .303s, Sort of cannon armed FB.VI with 2 stage Merlins Steve. brewerjerry
Hi yeah, my other winter conversion should be mosquito DD723 http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj307/Allanscott31/airfixlancmosquito/scan0012-1.jpg this will be 1:48, as I now have the belcher lanc engine pods I wouldnt mind doing it in 1:32, but the HK lanc is a bit to expensive to buy for parts .... cheers Jerry
mhuxt
The book "Mosquito" by Sharp and Bowyer say the FB.24s were to be KA928 and KA929 - to my eye the serial in the pic looks like KA928.

brewerjerry
Hi Just found out the FB 24 would not be much a conversion project, seems in 1:48, I just get myself an airfix NF30 and dont fit the bull nose parts. Cheers Jerry
brewerjerry
HI interesting ....... a request on the flypast board has brought a photo and the serial KA102 http://forum.keypublishing.com/showthread.php?126178-Anyone-know-the-serial-number-for-the-Mosquito-FB-24 and the production serials bring no answer http://www.airhistory.org.uk/dh/_DH98%20prodn%20list.txt So maybe I flip a coin ? or was KA102 converted to KA928 ? cheers Jerry
rossm
Hello Jerry, Air Britain serials book gives KA100 to KA102 as "Canadian Mosquito FB.21s retained in Canada." and KA984 to KA999 are listed as Mosquito B.25s delivered in March 1945 and retained in Canada. Mosquito Portfolio by Stuart Howe has a photo of KA100 and states it was one of only three FB21s, the Canadian version of the FB.VI, which was superceded by the FB.26. The FB24 seems to have escaped the Howe/Thirsk Illustrated History. Ross Edit - Just got the eyes working - KA928 and 929 are listed by Air Britain as cancelled Mosquito FB.24s Putnam on DH says 3 examples of FB.21 based on FB.VI with Packard Merlin 31 or 33 were followed by two FB.24s with Merlin 301 and 338 FB.26 with Merlin 225. The serial list says FB21 KA100-KA101 (Merlin31); KA102 (Merlin 33). FB24 KA928,929 (only one completed). Edited August 30, 2013 by rossm
