Isopropyl Alchol - availability

I know this is readily available on-line, but can anyone suggest somewhere on the High St (apart from all good chemists) that do sell this in liquid (not spray) form please?

I say ignore Chemists because I've tied 4 around my area with no joy.

Thanks

Any chemist can get it for you, I think it all depends of if they want to.

Maplins (as above) do stock it, the website only shows the spray tins, but they do bottles in the shops.

To be fair, it's easier just to order it from Amazon (fairly cheaply) or "The Bay".

EDIT: We have a local builders/plumbers merchant that sells it too (proper one that is... Not B&Q etc)

I share your pain with chemists. I eventually found one near me who was Willing to sell it to me, but only if I wrote a letter to them telling them why I wanted it.

Save yourself the agony and follow the Maplin routw. I intend to in future.

Cheers,

Tom.

When I was trying to get mine a local chemist would order some for me but in the end I got it on line at a cheaper price. Its useful stuff, I use it for all sorts of things like this:

Here its giving my little Natter a much needed wash behind the ears.

If as said above, 1Ltr at Maplins costs £15-16 you can get 5Ltrs Off of Ebay or Amazon inc delivery for that exact same price.

Worth considering Tom

Definitely, at that price. I normally try to avoid ebay, but when the saving is that significant...

Thanks.

This is where there is a huge difference between Britain and the U. S. Here, you can purchase it at just about every type of store that has hard goods, i. e., grocery stores, drug stores, discount stores, hardware stores, convenience stores, auto parts stores. Why is it so difficult to purchase in G.B.? Just curious.

I think IPA can be used in the manufacture of drugs, which may explain the reticence of chemists, or maybe some of the homeless folks drink it as a change from Meths? I dread to think what that'd do to your innards, but maybe it's not so bad with a spot of coke?

You can get it easily from eBay and electrical factors like RS Components though, so there's no need to go through the rigmarole of dealing with Chemists. I got a 5L container from RS several years ago, and still haven't got round to drinking using it all

That's a good question, I will be interested when some knowledgeable Britmodeller provides the answer. I have a few theories but don't really know.

Drink it - you would have to be seriously in need of a drink to be tempted by this stuff.

I think another factor is the ignorance of the general British population as to how usefull it is. Either that or they don't do much modelling.

Mind you I just remembered a story that an older friend of mine once told me. When he was doing his National Service in the Royal Navy in the 1950's he worked in the stores department and some of the men used to nick Brasso metal polish , filter it through some bread and drink that. Apparently it does contain meths or some other alcohol. Even Farther Jack might balk at that.

They've taken the alco gel hand wash out of prisons as it mixes well with orange juice apparently!!
