What is the Longest Gestation period?

Inspired by the other thread here I posted

"actually that would be a good thread for the golden oldies among us

Question - What model took longest to appear after the manufacturer advertised it as a forthcoming attraction? In the case of the Beaufort I think the first delivery is being couriered by the four horsemen of the apocalypse at worlds end so we should exclude that one from the contest"

answers below gentlemen as to what one/ones have really frustrated you by teasing and not coming across with the goodies

Academy has teased us with a new tool 1/24 Cobra Daytona for several years now... it may not be the longest, but it IS the most frustrating for me. I wish they'd never mentioned it, and just sprung it on us as a surprise. By contrast, in terms of SHORT gestation, how about the Tamiya LaFerrari -- available in November when the thing was launched in March... 7 months.

bestest,

M.

need rough dates/years chaps to see who tops the poll - thinking caps on and travel back through that mist of weeks, months, years, beer, heavy drink, women (maybe woman then), sleepless nights fearing you have upset the Mods....and tell us how dreadfully sloooooooowww these people were in fulfilling your plastic fantasies (models not latex :nono: )

The Beaufort must be what 7-8 years since first mooted???

Dunno if Special Hobby announced it "officially" but there is a Tiger Moth listed on Hannants for several years now. But nothing against that 1-24 Mosquito, though I wonder if it really qualifies as it was not constantly announced over all these years and is most likely not "the" kit intended to be relased in the 70s (pettifogger...). I think the limited run producers maybe in general more prone to bigger "delay" when it comes to bring out an announced kit. When it comes to major manufacturers the one which springs to my mind is Italeris 1:32 F-104 which was announced for 2011 and only some CAD drawings were shown not too long ago. I wonder if it really hits the shelfs this year.

Didn't Airfix announce a TSR.2 in the late '60s ?

Wasn't that the British Government but then the RAF was getting F111 instead and then the F4 instead? - see its not just kit manufacturers !!

(joke intended so no politics going :offtopic: please even if TSR2 gets us all  )

Airfix Chinook. Announced in the late 80's, arrived in the 00's

I remember a diorama at an expo somewhere, of a skeleton waiting at a postbox with the caption "waiting for the Airfix Chinook..."

What about Trumpeter's 1/24th Mustang "B" must be 10 years since that was announced

Terry

Add the A-6 in 1/32 to that list as it took a while to get here then there is the Devastator that still on its release list

Many years ago in Scale Models (1989?) I saw a picture of a diorama of a web covered skeleton entitled "Waiting for the Airfix Chinnook". When it came it was a Italeri repop IIRC

Edit: Just seen Rob P's post above!

Early 80s (84 IIRC - same year as the Nautilus and ACA models) The diorama was by Brian Parker.

Italeri Canberra B.2, been a while and still not here as they cancelled it. Wish that Airfix ACA and Nautilus would get here!
