Hi all

A quick update before the real elbow grease begins! Wings and tailplanes are on. The nose wheel well took some further fettling and the fit on the underside isn't great but with some sanding and filler she should be fine

Whilst this is being sanded and filled, I can now make a start on the FR-1. Thanks for looking!

Hi all

I've been beavering away on this one with a weather-eye on the finish date which is creeping closer. After a mammoth sanding and filling session(s), the kit was ready to start the cockpit canopy. I lump of Blu-Tac to stop the canopy deforming while cutting...

001_zpse9aa01ad.jpg

Once cut - I dry-fitted it to the fuselage - shocking fit as it is too big all-round. I remembered reading this in a review on MM and so set about carefully trimming off about 3mm all round

Once trimmed I re-fitted it to test...much better. I dipped it in Future, air dryed on tissue and the masked it up

I then painted a fitted the gas bottle arrangement behind the headrest, having given the area 2 coats of Humbrol 33 as a base

The canopy has now been glued on and I will let that dry before applying a little filler to blend it in. The a coat of black and the whole thing will be ready for primer. Thanks for looking

Cheers Les. Tussling whether to build the XF2R, or the WHIF F2R. I'm leaning toward the latter as I have left the slot for the tailhook and I can let it carry 1,000lb bombs then too!

You know you're teasing me with this build! Am sooo tempted to start my one, but just no time now plus other builds to complete.

Will steal/borrow all you trick for when I finally get around to building mine! :P

Coming along nicely!

Thanks Radleigh, Neal and Rich. Almost home on this. I managed to get her primed and the Lifecolor GSB on.

I decided to do the more colourful VF-41 'Firebirds' aircraft, so this meant some masking for white wingtips and tail. The finish isn't as rough as it looks this was taken immediately after gloss coating

The decals are OK and adhere well but are too thin and allow colour bleed when applied over each other - especially with the white stars over the yellow stripes, A shame.

The underside decals also need trimming if the u/c doors are open, so that took a little time

I will tackle the u/c tomorrow as I'm off out to see Pat Travers tonight! :guitar: The props have been painted and decalled - so next entry will be the RFI! Thanks for looking

Finally completed with the undercarriage, doors, hook and bombs on. I have to say it's not been an easy build - it's a true short-run kit but it's an unusual subject and I'm pleased with how she turned out!

I therefore present BuNo 104595, White 109, VF-41 "Firebirds"

Great looking model Andy. Even though it's not my cup of thee, but I like it!

Cheers,

Thanks Arnold - if the truth be told, it's not my favourite 'looker' but it's an unusual addition to the display shelves!

Although I have not been following this build, that looks a very interesting and unusual aircraft. It looks like it was a bit of a struggle to build, but well perservered, as the finish is really very good. Well done.
