bzn20
Well done Perdu, not only was this a very good build your style of story telling is entertaining, some of your understatments and exagerations (difficult to do!) made me laugh.

Fritag
Bill, Have I just seen this little beauty at SMW? Your threads didn't do it Justice. Looks even better in the flesh Steve
dr_gn
Yup, I saw it too, and had a chat with Bill himself which was great. I agree it's even better in the flesh, and it put some of the other class winners to shame IMO. Huge congratulations on a job well done.
perdu
Aw shucks chaps, making me blush now. But thanks, kind comments helped make all the grim bits during the experiment worth having. I am glad the judges enjoyed it too, judging is all in the perceived taste of the judge after all It was great chatting to you Garth, and seeing the turret from your Defiant was amazing. It is an awesome, awe inspiring piece of art.Did you get in touch with Les afterwards? Steve I am sorry I didn't get to meet you there, how about Gaydon in the spring? Shropshire model show. And you others I didn't manage to meet. I did manage to meet the Jeep-ster and Terry for a welcome coffee though. Blimey two days of that "Show" is like working piece work in my old toolmaking days. Very worth while but blimey, don't you know you earned it...
dr_gn
Unfortunately Les had to leave early, but I'm glad you approve of the turret. Always good to get an expert opinion. My comments on the judging appear elsewhere...you know my thoughts ;-)
Fritag
Yup, I saw it too, and had a chat with Bill himself which was great..... ......It was great chatting to you Garth......Blimey; not just great modellors but great conversationalists too PS. I think this is the first time I've seen a model that I've followed with such interest on BM in the flesh as it were. I almost nudged the stanger next to me at the show and said "oy look at this - I'll tell you how he did it........." Cept he was bigger than me - so I let the impulse pass....

perdu
I kinda guessed that from your 'handle' glad to have you around, there are a few Fire-flight fans in here See Radleigh, for one Not 840458? Has she survived do you know? Edited February 17, 2018 by perdu
MTFireFlyer
84-0458 is last reported to be with Air Cargo Carriers in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. It would appear that she became a parts bird as soon as they had acquired her. http://www.airport-data.com/aircraft/photo/000522208.html The Forest Service acquired their four C-23A's from the US Air Force back in 1991 and have been operating them for 26 years already. I personally have been crewing them for 20 years now. I thank you for your taking on such a unique and rare aircraft as your scratch build project. I have enjoyed your pictures and posts from start to finish. I first came across your posts in 2014 but hadn't noticed the photos of your finished project winning Bronze in a model contest. I personally would have given it Gold but as a Sherpa pilot myself that would make me highly bias! I have saved every picture that is able to be viewed in hopes that one day I can muster up the ambition and knowledge to try and duplicate your endeavor. Should you ever decided to take this aircraft on once again I would really like it if you painted it with the Forest Service paint scheme. I have lots of photos from all angles I'd be willing to share with you. Then I know I would try to talk you in selling it to me. If I ever attempt this project myself, be prepared to be approached with a lot of how to questions. MTFireFlyer
Hey Bill, The US Air Force 10th MAS personnel who crewed and worked on these Sherpas over in Europe have a FaceBook group that I've been made an honorary member because I keep them updated on the activities and status of their birds. I would like to post some of your photos of your project on their group page. Would you be OK with that? Shane
