Rickpadwick1801 Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 (edited) Hi Everyone, I just thought I would share some of my photos from today's visit to the Eastbourne Airshow. These photos were taken on a pocket digital camera, a Nikon Coolpix L25, so unfortunately the quality of the photos is not as good as if I was using a larger digital camera. I intend to purchase a better quality digital SLR with a variety of lenses etc, if anyone has any recommendations for me, please feel free to comment. Anyway, onto the photos. The photos of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and Red Arrows are my favourites out of the photos I got. Battle Of Britain Memorial Flight - All 3 aircraft BBMF - Lancaster Chinook :- The Red Arrows :- The Red Arrows :- The Red Arrows :- The Red Arrows :- I didn't get any photos of the Typhoon unfortunately and the Sea King and Lynx AH-7 cancelled their displays and didn't show, which annoyed me no end. Several of the other displays were only watched by me rather than photographed as I was walking around the trade stalls etc at the time they were on. Full album is available on Facebook : https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.199430156890707.1073741836.100004711722357&type=1&l=3d34ba4505 Thanks for looking, I hope you like the photos even though they are not of the quality most photos on here are. Cheers, Rick Edited August 18, 2013 by Rickpadwick1801
Rickpadwick1801 Posted August 20, 2013 Author Posted August 20, 2013 Well I have to say that I am disappointed with my photos especially after seeing some of the photos other people with proper cameras.
Paul Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 The photos look fine to me considering the camera you used and the fact that you were at a seaside show where you are usually shooting into the sun. Keep at it! If you are going to upgrade, start with a cheap dslr and something like a 70-300 mm lens and learn to use the shutter speed priority mode (fast for jets, slow for helicopters). Good luck

Paul Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 It really does depend on your budget and whether you're in the canon or Nikon camp. I'm a Canon user and have an older 500d body with a 100-400 L lens which is one of the most popular airshow lenses. The important point is to invest the bulk of your money in the lens, it'll be with you longer than the body and is much more important in terms of image quality than the camera.
Riggers Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 The show Friday & Saturday was a total waste for photographers! Friday most were cancelled (the Typhoon came in.....then left!). No parachutists..at all! No BBMF on Friday, only on Saturday but the day was very overcast! Arrows did a 'flat run' on the Friday, but did it twice so as to not disappoint! Good show on the Saturday, but they pulled it forward by 2 hours!!! Mustn't grumble....it's free!!! Be there next year same as Mrs Riggers & I have done for the past 3 years!!! ATB

I hope you got to see a bit more of the display if you were around on the Sunday ? I think we might be going to Bournemouth next year. ATB Edited August 20, 2013 by Rickpadwick1801

jimbuna Posted August 21, 2013 Posted August 21, 2013 Your photos look okay Rick, certainly as good as mine and I'm using the entry budget Canon 1100D DSLR with an 18 to 55mm and a 55 to 250 mm set of lenses.
