jckspratt1
Noice! I tend to shy away from panel lines and weathering - mine always look like they've rolled off the factory floor. I think being a bit of a neat freak has a bit to blame for there - every time I get towards the end of a project I manage to talk myself out of doing anything to it, despite having decided 'this is the one'. I've just finished Airfix's absolute pig of a Sturmovik, which should be the one if ever there was (it'd be no loss!) and couldn't even weather that! Winenut
Thanks JS1. I've only just started trying panel lines etc.....I'm not so fussed with full weathering but the extra detail on the panel lines if done right looks pretty smart. Not that I do it properly! I've got that Airfix Strurmovik in the stash .....sounds like it's a challenge. How did you go at the SAPMA show? Did you go? I went late on Sunday with my lad and stayed for the judging. From one of the traders I picked up a 1:48 Eduard Lysander that I will build once I practice all the techniques on the cheap and cheerful 1:72 airfix/revel/academy kits I have in the stash! jckspratt1
The Sturmovik is a piece of crap - I quite enjoyed doing it because it's so bad that it feels good to come up with anything remotely nice considering what one starts with. Having said that, it's probably the worst of the many quite limited old-tool Airfix kits I've done (followed closely by an absolute shocker of a Tornado) - but I enjoy just playing around and practising with them. In truth, I'd researched this one, and it's quite infamous but it's the only kit with Mongolian markings that I know of so I had to have it. You should know - the shape of the wings - et al - is grossly incorrect (which sort of thing doesn't bother me much with these kits), but if you want accuracy and are planning on a Russian scheme I'd get one of another brand. Went to the SAPMA show first thing on the Saturday, then was nearby on the Sunday arvo so I dropped in with my wife. If you wear round-lensed specs and your lad (who is quite young) was the one waxing lyrical about US planes at one stage, then we were pretty much wandering around checking out the entries side by side! I only considered that possibility on my way home or I'd have asked you. How amazing were some of the entries - I am in absolute awe at Lawrence Farrugia's Pippistrelo. I reckon that's the best paint job I've ever seen. I love Lysanders - didn't know Eduard did one (I've been thinking of springing for a Pavla version, but they're hard to get here (as you no doubt know), so consider me jealous. I spent a small fortune during both visits, so I can't be too shattered though. I think I've said before, I'm only newly returned to the hobby, so I 'm busy practising on dodgy kits (with the odd foray into better ones). I've just finished Revell's 1:28 Fokker Dr.I - easy to build, but a woeful kit for detail (but it was dirt cheap). When I finished it I just sort of sat thinking "And? is that it?". Pity - I've since learned that Revell's 1:48 version is actually the old Eduard mould (and I've done their D.V which was also ex-Eduard, and it was very nice), so I should have gone with the smaller scale but better kit. ArmouredSprue
Well I finally got a bit of time away from my hell job and managed to finish the G. Here's a few shots. She's not perfect but first time airbrush for me, first time panel line washes and first time really trying to do the whole thing really well. I've still got the E to go to complete this thread and hopefully I can improve a bit more. Any feedback so far welcomed. Cheers winenut. Thanks for looking...... Beautiful! I really liked it! Well done!
