My next project will be the Tamiya's Il-2 in 48th scale. I will build my kit oob but i have a doubt for the camo: can some one suggest me the best paint in Gunze's range for the three-tone camo in tan. green and dark grey???

And for the interiors? Could be right te RLM-o2 grey??

ciao

A very good question, is there a conversion chart available for Akan/Gunze paints?

After my mishap on Eduard's Il-2 (http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234942905-172-eduard-ilyushin-il-2m3/) I want to make sure to choose the right colours on my next build which will be Academy's Il-2M.

There's a rather long thread on this subject here:

http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234933995-vvs-colours-in-the-great-patriotic-war/

You may be able to use the paints mentioned in the thread on a conversion website to get to the Gunze equivalents

Cheers

For the interior I've used XF-25 Light Sea Grey which is a sort of bluish-RLM02, at least to my eye - with a dark wash and some dry brushing it looks pretty good actually

After my mishap on Eduard's Il-2 (http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234942905-172-eduard-ilyushin-il-2m3/) I want to make sure to choose the right colours on my next build which will be Academy's Il-2M.

Until someone smarter than me comes along, let me try to help. The colours you're interested in are:

AMT-1 (light greyish brown or tan)

AMT-4 (medium to dark green, with perhaps a slight olive tone to it)

AMT-12 (dark grey, almost black, with a hint of blue)

AMT-7 (the underside colour - medium greyish blue)

A-14 (the cockpit colour - often called steel grey)

I don't know of a Gunze/Akan conversion chart, unfortunately. This table, which includes some FS approximations, should be helpful, though:

http://mig3.sovietwarplanes.com/colors/color-table.html

The colours you want are about 1/3 to 1/2 way down; A-14 is close to the bottom as part of the section headed "Interior Colors". FWIW, I've used RAF Ocean Grey for A-14, and nobody died.

Regarding Il-2 camouflage schemes, this may be helpful with a bit of careful study:

http://mig3.sovietwarplanes.com/il-2/il-2.htm

The "Il-2m" is here (early camouflage):

http://mig3.sovietwarplanes.com/il-2/il2-camo/il-2m/il2m-early1943.htm

...and here (late camouflage):

For Ale, the Tamiya kit is the so-called "Il-2m-3" - it's on this page:

Ale,

flipping through my decal sheets, I finally found a conversion of AMT colours to the Gunze range

(this comes from an AML Ilyushin Il-4 Decal Sheet):

AMT-4 (Light Green) = Gunze H312

AMT-1 (Sand) = Gunze H71

AMT-7 (Underside Blue) has no equal Gunze number.

I suggest using RLM65 with a drop of Grey-Blue to achieve correct shade.

Hope this is useful.

Regards

Roman
