scorpiomikey
When i was younger (probably about 10 years ago now) me and my dad went to our first Omaka airshow (kiwi guys will know whati m talking about) They had all the hangars open so you could poke around and we came across this little beastie. We eventually came to the conclusion that it was a captured Curtis Hawk. (Hence the swastika on the tail) How it got to Blenheim in NZ i may never know. However i thought it was interesting. What discoveries have you guys made that have made you do a double take?
Rick Brown
Very interesting find chap and wonder what happened to it? Unfortunately I haven't found anything aircraft related but whilst clearing out our old offices about 15 years ago at work I found an original BBC Model B computer. This is the beast I cut my IT teeth on when at school! The guy I worked with didn't even know what it was, he thought it was some kind if telex machine! Cutting a long story short, I hooked it up to a tv we found in the same cellar and it gave out one hell of a bang and went up in smoke Sigh. jenko
Have lived in the same house since I got married (30 years). We are opposite a field. It wasn't untill earlier this year that I found out the field used to be a radar base with an airstrip during the last war. Went under the name of RAF Northdown. Nothing to indicate that now though. mackem01
Many moons ago when a member of the local aircraft museum, followed a lead to discover a large wooden WW1 prop. Still on display at the North East Aircraft Museum as far as I know.
D1fuN0
Hi Chaps When we were working on the Wadi Whiska Dam in Libya, apart from finding hundreds of fossils, we found loads of interetsing stuff. Second or third day of excavations we found an old truck chassis, just the framework but i wasnt able to identify the make, half the rear axle was missing, possibly due to landmine, dont know, but it was more than likely an Italian truck. Whilst we were excavating the new drainage channel next to the entrance road, we uncovered 4 links of caterpillar track, which was literally cm's below the surface. We couldn't ID the track, but it wasnt a very large link. We sent that of to Tobruk to be identified and they let us know it was Italian, but exact type unknown. I have photos somewhere, ill dig them out. Its actually amazing how many bits and pieces are still lying around over there. Steve

scorpiomikey
Ooohh thanks for that Dave. Any idea if its staying in NZ? Or is it being exported like every other cool aircraft that gets restored in this country. Theres some interesting stuff here guys, i wonder if this should get moved to one of the general chat forums?
