Redboost
Hi folks, this is out of the box affair of the Tamiya excellent kit painted with Akan authentic acrylics. A build report should appear in Model Airplane International at a later date. Cheers Libor

Learstang
Beautiful Il-2, Libor! Did you lighten the AKAN paints and did you use the acrylic lacquers? I have a Tamiya kit almost finished (just a little more sanding and priming), then it's off to the camouflage colours. I'm always afraid the AKAN colours will look too dark, but your's look good. Regards, Jason Yes, that's right. AKAN paints must to do more lighten according to the scale. I use them only as a reference color, but I use only Tamiya and other paints for coloring. AKAN too often clogs the airbrush, because it has too heterogeneous composition.

Thank you for the information! That's what I was afraid of, Fuad. I hate paints that clog my airbrush, which acrylics always seem to do. I use Testors Model Master flat enamels because they work well with my airbrush, dry quickly, and are easy to buy where I live (Texas, USA). The colours I use are Gunship Gray for AMT-12 Dark Grey, Interior Green for AMT-4 Green, Israeli Armor Sand/Gray or '42 Afrika Dunkelgrau for AMT-1 (I haven't decided yet which I like better), Russian Topside Blue for the AMT-7 Blue, and for AMT-6 Black, I use Black, of course. For the interior colour A-14 Steel Grey I use Testors MM Neutral Gray. For the green wheel hubs I use Medium Green, and for the instrument panel, which may have been AE-9 Light Grey, I use Camouflage Gray. Redboost
Hi Jason, yes, as suggested by Fuad I also lightened the acrylics paints (with about 20% white) as they look too saturated in the bottle. But I have no problems with choking the airbrush, maybe because of my home made thinner (45% alcohol, 45% distilled water, 5% aceton). Paints Testors / Model Master are gorgeous and they have a thematic series that I use. They have only one problem - my relatives threatened to evict me from the apartment, because they (paints) are stinky.
EXPrompt
Nevertheless Akan has very exact palette of colors on subject. I can approve it on the German aircraft of WW2 For the sake of it, I cotton wool from a needle am ready to clean each 5 minutes airbrush.
stevehnz
EXPrompt, sorry if this is a thread hijack but your mention of Luftwaffe colours makes me ask, did you use Akan paints for the RLM72/73 on your Ar95 & Do18 ? He115 too (?) I like the look of these as well as any I have seen & hope that Airfix will be as good when their new RLM colours come out, I think later this year. Steve. EXPrompt
Certainly I used Akan Rlm72,73. Rlm 73 is lightened 5-10% In my opinion analogs 72,73 no, not at Humbroll, revell Yes however and Rlm 70-71-65 at Akan are exact. I will hang out soon Fw189 you will see. 82,83,74,75,81 too Akan have Rlm. All palette of Luftwaffe is, and exact. AKAN have even early colors of Luftwaffe of RLM 61,62,63 Edited July 19, 2013 by EXPrompt
