Dragon 1/72 Saturn V

Recommended Posts

Well, in between the 144 stringers on the S-II forward skirt are 138 longerons...... About 1/3rd done

I've also made a resin replacement for the S-IVB tank dome so I can use the kit one as the basis for the thrust structure ( the kit thrust structure is nowhere near the correct curvature an totally lacks the conical part of it )

Sorry for not updating much recently...

S-IVB skirts done ( though I'll need to do a 2nd aft one for the Saturn 1B as it has a different stringer arrangement, and 3 ullage motors instead of 2 ), as well as extended tank section. Aft skirt pipe fairings ready for moulding ( in blue square thing ). Ullage motor master needs a little more fill&sand, as does the systems tunnel, and the thrust structure will be getting some more pipework shortly.

Eagle eyed among you will spot a couple of other projects underway - the 1B previously mentioned being one of them.

Kit will include the bottom end of the systems tunnel - top end is moulded into the forward skirt. The Dragon systems tunnel then needs to be cut to length and inserted between the two ends. I'll also be adding a strip of 0.25mm plasticard around the top of the tank to represent the band of insulation found there.

Now to finish off the S-IVB parts and start on the SLA ( mainly surface detail ) and the escape rocket ( kit part is a plain tube without any of the details of the real one e.g. jettison motor exhaust )

Sorry for the lack of updates - busy producing castings for customers :)

One change to the S-IVB parts - the tank body is now acrylic tube rather than cast resin - quicker and cheaper to produce :)
