Airfix HMS-Victory-1/180 scale-With scale warship etchings

Recommended Posts

Amazing! I think this is the longest thread I have read from start to finish and it has been brilliant to see it go from the old Airfix kit into the beauty you have currently got. Am now looking forward to future progress.

Cheers

Graham

Thanks again folks for a wonderfull responce, Well some more of the picture.

Martin. Have added some figures to the Quay, but not yet to the back scene, I beleave the Victory should be the main focus and around the quay.

Some pictures.

Here are just a few of the figures, some will be women looking on.

Your Union Flag is upside down! No, seriously; the broad white diagonal bits should be against the flagstaff, not away from it like yours.

Looks fab, though

Thanks to FAAWAAFU for pointing out the flag in wrong config. :speak_cool:

Got it the right way up with no damage done.'Whew'.

Working on the figures and Victory its self.

Started the water base, this useing Valligo water based paints.

DSCF4160_zps7a5e04cc.jpg

Used dark blue/grey/green for the first coat, 'yep its dark', next is a watered down coat of PVA, then as I go along will lighten the water to go with the sky, well near as dam it.

The bottom of Victory will be in the worn state as if its been in the water sometime.

Cheers for now foxy :coolio:

Looks better and better everytime Frank, I did notice you said you were going to use PVA for the water, just be carefull how thick you lay it down, I tried it a few years ago and it went a brownish colour after a couple of months, but I went really thick with it. I also got some strange white crap all over the metal patrs of the ship which someone mentioned could be the a reaction to the pva glue, I'm not real sure about just what went wrong, just giving you a heads up and heres a couple of pics to try and show what I mean.

The above pic shows when it was finished below shows a couple of months later

As I said I din't brush on thin coats I pored one thick coat, but I hope this helps

Fantastic painting of the figures though

looking forward to seeing how you water turns out :)

Cheers Callum

Thanks Callum for the headsup on PVA, 'have used before', but your right on not doing thick coats.

I water mine down so it flows around stones etc.(Takes more time), also seal with Klear at the end.

Do not want to spoil it now, still have to get some sitting figures for the boats, up to my local model shop for them.

Lanterns/rear davits and a little titivation will see the Victory ready.

Then the figures will go on once ship is anchored.

Then all ship shape and Portsmouth fashion.

Thanks again folks for all the Interest.

Getting close to the end then Foxy, Have you told Mrs F that she has to do a backdrop for the 'big one' when you start it just to see if she faint? This must be huge! Still awesome!

Make it the liberty boat coming back; balloons, a hooker or two and the odd bucket of vomit - a proper modelling challenge.

I've run out of superlatives for thus, but they are all still merited.
