theplasticsurgeon Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Intending to build this kit Bought on Ebay for 17 quid. And here are the parts. Can anyone spot the added bonus with this kit? 1
SaintsPhil Posted July 6, 2013 Posted July 6, 2013 Great choice, and a bargain! Can't see any bonus from the pics, do you get an oil rig in the kit too?...
theplasticsurgeon Posted July 6, 2013 Author Posted July 6, 2013 (edited) Bonus canopy sprue? Looking forward to this! Sean Close - but not what I'm thinking. This is a lateral thinking bonus . That canopy sprue is a leftover from an FGR2 kit that I built in 2008. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/12879-fujimi-172-phantom-fgr2/ I'm at an archery tournament tomorrow - but will post the answer when I get back in the evening. theplasticsurgeon Posted July 7, 2013 Author Posted July 7, 2013 No other suggestions. This kit was bought in Dec 2011. Around April this year I noticed this - Short moulding of the Stdb fuselage. Fortunately a lot is hidden behind the intake splitter. Probably too late to return it to Ebay seller - though I have checked the description.
SaintsPhil Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 That's a shame, like you say it could be in a worse place, fixable I would think...
Silver Fox Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Top kit, I built 25 of them when they first came out, one for each Squadron and unit. Only missed out 1435 Flight before I moved to 1/48th scale. Brings back many happy memories.
theplasticsurgeon Posted July 9, 2013 Author Posted July 9, 2013 This is the point where I show you similar subjects that I've built previously.Going with 72nd scale Phantoms - you've already seen my Fuji FGR2 model,Next a Matchbox F-4K Phantom - that I built with my sonA gift from Phreak - thank-you Rich My first ever Phantom built when I was about 15. Airfix F-4C.A Fujimi Luftwaffe F-4FAnother Fujimi, this time a USMC RF-4B.And another - this time USAF RF-4C.And final Fujimi an F-4G Wild Weasel.Hasegawa F-4ERemember that first Airfix model - well I refurbed it whilst painting the RF-4C and F-4G - as Olds01.
bigbadbadge Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Shame about the moulding, great choice though and some great builds Good luck with your build All the bestChris
cardiff guy Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 I'll be watching this one have 2 fujimi kits just waiting some decent RN decals Glenn.
theplasticsurgeon Posted July 13, 2013 Author Posted July 13, 2013 My photobucket account should reset itself on Weds - so I'll continue posting blind for you. First job is to match up the fuselage halves, and get some reinforcement inside. To support some plasticard patching. and filler The repair is looking quite promising - though I might loose the IFR facility.
Mozzy19 Posted July 13, 2013 Posted July 13, 2013 Yes, the "new" stealth fighter. Good progress... (For when we can see it...) Sean
theplasticsurgeon Posted July 17, 2013 Author Posted July 17, 2013 Progress during my bandwidth blackout. and the cockpitand general assembly.
SaintsPhil Posted July 17, 2013 Posted July 17, 2013 Good repair! Great progress, keep up the good work
theplasticsurgeon Posted July 18, 2013 Author Posted July 18, 2013 (edited) This is what we're like at the momentWell I'm happy with that. Not planning on tempting fate - scribing in the RF probe.Sprue re-enforcement to slightly widen the fuselage. Dry fit of wings indicated a slight gap.And now the wings are on - without any gap. theplasticsurgeon Posted July 24, 2013 Author Posted July 24, 2013 This is my treatment of seams with Tippex. In the company of a Hasegawa F-4B.And after some sanding. 1
theplasticsurgeon Posted July 25, 2013 Author Posted July 25, 2013 For this project I've painted the canopy and surrounding area, prior to fitting. There's some minor repair needed around that earlier crack - but you can see the shape of things to come.
Navy Bird Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Too bad on the short shot, but an excellent recovery! Conquering an issue like that makes modelling even more satisfying though, don't you think? The 1:72 Fujimi Phantoms are nice little kits, I'm looking forward to the rest of your build. Cheers, Bill
SaintsPhil Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 This ones coming on nicely, keep up the good work
theplasticsurgeon Posted July 28, 2013 Author Posted July 28, 2013 Me in perfect harmony with a white aerosol from a Pound Shop. The other Phantom is Hasegawa F-4B USMC.4
theplasticsurgeon Posted August 4, 2013 Author Posted August 4, 2013 Seems I've blown my Photobucket quota again. Anyway, I've airbrushed the EDSG over the top surfaces. Now planning to put pilots in this model, so currently painting them.
