:wub: An absolute beauty - having seen what a struggle this kit is, you should be proud and have a large slug of whatever is your poison. Bravo!

Very nice indeed - I contemplated one of these and decided to go with the Sanger vac as it looked far easier!

Well done for beating it into submission... now you've done this you know Trumpeter will release one :winkgrin:

Hi everyone. Thanks again for your comments. Muchly appreciated.

I guess that my secret to this build was to tackle it in bite-size chunks and to not get too bogged down. Work on just one problem at a time then move away to something easier. Have a look at it every now and again and assess the next issue. Most importantly.......search the net and see how someone else tackled it before coming back with a Dremmel and a tub of filler. When I started it was about my 5th build so it was a good learning excersize.

i have one and so far have only completed the major wing components , tell me did you use the kit engine nacelles or obtain a couple of Beafighter kits and rob them for the cowls as i am thinking of doing unless i can find a cheaper alternative ??

Apart from lots of bits of internal reinforcing with sprue and plasticard, a couple of metal rods for tailplane attachment and alignment, and about 10mm off the end of a curtain rod to act as a base for the mid upper turret...... it's all what came in the box. The roundels and A/C codes fell apart on me so they were replaced as well. I did read of someone swapping the engines, but at that stage I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out, and so didn't want to end up with a nicely detailed piece of pooh. :unsure:. Good luck with those builds mate, I look forward to seeing them on here.

I have to say though that I found the plastic really easy to work with, which was a bonus considering.......

Welcome to the FM Halifax completer's club!

I did this kit a few years ago, so know what it entailed- boy have you pulled it off !

It certainly tests your skills, especially if it is your first bash at a limited production kit- as it was in my case. Well done that man.

Good luck, it's an impressive beast when it's finished. Well worth the effort I reckon, and quite satisfying.

No thunder stolen......that's pretty cool ! Must give you the warm and fuzzies having all those people looking at it.

My local doctor (http://www.flyingdoctor.co.nz/) has offered me a home for some of my stuff if I want (particularly F-4s !). But since the kids moved out I've got an extra 2 rooms to fill first :thumbsup:

Trust me, the Sanger vac is a killer. Even if you have done such a bang-up job on the big B-29.

What a great result!

This kit is one I tend to hear about often, but (almost) never see as a finished build.

To complete it as well as you have is a big reward and great for the rest of us to see.

Thanks for your comments, it's still one of my favourite early builds.  I'd been meaning to take a couple more photos of it for ages and you've given me the push to sort it out.....Friday 13 tomorrow as well.

You should have a crack at building it.....it's not straight forward, but it is hugely satisfying to finish it.  I have thought that if I ever got another one I'd  finish it in Coastal Command colours.

Cheers Gaz,...... yeah, wow,...it would look fantastic in post war Coastal white too! There are so many options for the Halibag,..... I`d love a mainstream 1/48th kit of the type and they could do so many versions too!

On the 24th of August 1944, this aircraft along with 11 others from 158 Squadron took off from RAF Lissett to deliver their payloads at targets in Brest, France.

 

Exert from the Pilots logbook:

 

‘Just because we were knocking poo-poo out of the German submarine pens in Brest, they took umbrage and decided to knock poo-poo out of us. They did to a certain extent but with much reference to Jesus, God and a lot of sweat, we were seen by two Mustang fighters who were in the area and saw we were having a problem. They escorted us back across the Channel to the English coast and we got home half an hour after we should have done. Everyone else had gone! Much beer was consumed that night (again).

 

Splendidly well made that chap!

That's fantastic, thanks for posting.

A day in the life of a bomber crew. How many more thousands of times were accounts like that written up, and how many thousands more never got the chance to write anything.
