Model Zone in Administration & to close

Because the overpaid fools who call themselves management think they know everything and don't listen to the people who usually REALLY know what is needed - ie the workforce!

A fine contemporary definition for "manager" I think. There may be other types of managers but I suppose they are all unemployed...

I'm officially a manager, and I can assure you I'm not overpaid. Not going to say anything about that other bit.

I went into the Lakeside branch a little while ago today, and the prices have slightly changed. It is now 20-50% off, with Hornby and Scalextric still excluded. Because plastic kits are possibly the only thing that is selling, they have kept those at 20%, as are the die cast models and radio controlled stuff. Paints, glues and sundries are now at 50%.

Anyone been in Lakesides store lately? Do they have many models left?

There are still a fair few models left with the grates choice in small figures and Armoured vehicles. The planes are rapidly selling, with Airfix a lot smaller than before. There is a lot of revell gear, but a fair bit of both companies goods are multiples of the same boxing. There is also still Hasegawa and Academy stuff too.

I remember when I was first promoted to a job with a management grade.

All it meant was I didn't get paid for overtime!

Don't know about that, I came away from the Swansea branch with a big bag full of paints, plasticard, brass rod & filler this morning - but no kits (although I did get an Airfix P-51 from the Works!!)

Swansea branch seems to have been selling more AFV's than aircraft - Armour shelves were looking pretty depleted.

I need to get back into the Ipswich store and stock up on those paints that are often 'handy' but rarely buy:

Copper, brass, varying shades of grey (no, not 50 of them....) different 'blacks' and silvers etc etc etc.....

Might get a magnifying head band too. Yes, it makes you look like a nerdy burk, but at 58 years of age, my eyeballs need a major service and oil change.

Roy.

Havering gone to the old store in Leeds that was next to morrisons and to the one that's in Doncaster where old school model stores where the staff really new there stuff and had a very large and wide range of medel kits. I hope that these kind of stores do make it on there own still as there grate.

Though of the other side went in to the store at meado hell ( meado hall - sheffieald ) the other month and unless it's dicast the didn't won't to know and wouldn't order in. And really don't understand the practis of massive % discounts on items that are not in stock any way on?!

Popped into the Kingston store yesterday. All the sale prices are from RRP. Not the greatest savings really. The only things that interested me was the Italeri AC-119 Gunship at 22 quid. £2.50 cheaper then emodels. Italeri SR-71 with drone at 18 quid. Revell F-89 for just over £10. Revell F-101 for just over £12. They had the new Eduard F-15E The staff didn't have a clue what was happening day to day. In the end I left empty handed. Saving my pennies for a trip to Model junction Bury St Edmonds next week...

The lot they can't find a buyer so Modelzone is gone, once they had sold their stock then they would be closed for good he said.

That's bad news, and I feel very sorry for the staff, but also the model buying public who now have one less place to get their "in person" plastic fix. It also marks the loss of the last model shop from Chester town centre. :fraidnot:

This is sad news, Indeed!

Sympathies to the staff, Especially the optimistic girls at the New Oxford St branch, who were helpful, friendly & chatty. I was planning a trip to Bromley today, just to visit that store, & came here for a quick update on the situation.......

I do wonder if we'll see any of the larger stores either re-open temporarily as " quick sale" outlets?

Did ANY survive the chop, or are they all gone now?

Gutted. As I said previously the shop on Deansgate/Bootle St in Manchester has been a model shop as far back as the 1960's (at least). If that is finally closing then it truly is the end of an era.
