I don't have an interest in airliners, so apart from whether it's a Boeing or an Airbus I take little notice. Once inside they arr almost identical, except for the number of seats.

There is, however one exception. My first flight. A Comet 4 with Dan Air on a skiing trip to Italy.

As for light aircraft, I've been up in some Cessna thing a few times, but never landed in it. I've also briefly taken the controls of a Stearman, but was mostly a passenger.

Pretty much the same as David for me. All the usual holiday Airbus/737/757 stuff that you don't look twice at. More interesting was

De Havilland Dove - first time I flew and just a joy ride

Tristar to Cyprus once

and Dornier 228 (I think I remember that right) between Madeira and Porto Santo

BAC 111

Trident

Tupolev 154 Moscow to Kazan

How on earth do you know what all those flying tubes are??

Dozens of them flying out and back every fortnight to European and Scandinavian destinations on contract every fortnight for 6 years. Some with real propellers!

Interesting ones:

Percival Prentice first fight , joy ride over Paglesham from Southend Airport when I was 7...54 years ago! It's at Coventry still.

Slingsby Cadet

Chipmunk (3 times as an ATC cadet and many times as a member of Felthorpe Flying Group)

Tiger Moth

Super Emeraude

Piper Cub (flew it up, out and back)

Pitts S2 (including a fantastic aerobatic routine)

Auster J5

Cessna 150

Fairchild 24R Argus

and an Islander from Jersey to Guernsey at almost zero height looking out of the front window!

Martin

That pretty well describes *all* the seats in an Islander! Possibly the noisiest GA airplane I've ever flown. The side windows had more crack stop holes in them than there was plexiglass!

Thats the result of fitting American engines Jennings :tease:

I remember being stuck next to some chisel-faced cow who would not speak or crack her face...until I asked her what time she expected the drinks trolley to come round!

Then she creased up, finally.

Ha! Just remembered two more, or one type more like! Harvard/Texan just aded to the list!! How could I forget!!!!

Also, on one of the B747 flights(the -200) had an incident where the take off from Gatwick was aborted due to an emergency light coming on!!! Apparently a strap or something had caught in the cargo hatch and a warning light came up!!! We were just starting the take off roll when the captain chappie slammed the anchors on! After it was all sorted we carried on as normal. And it was the only time I managed to get a visit to the flight deck on an airliner (year 2000). Also, we were upgraded up a class so were seated at the very front on the main deck. This was due to the check in cock up the night before! So Virgin upgraded us as recompense.

It was also the same year and trip I flew ( with some stick time)in the Texan at Kissimee and witnessed a Shuttle launch .

We went to Florida again the following year(2001) and that was when we got caught up in the 9/11 events. Got stranded over there for another week before any flights were operating again. But thats another story.

I suppose this incident warrants being posted in '... most memorable flight...' post elsewhere.
