This is a dream cone true for me. I will but a few. That said I've got 1 matchbox and 1 airfix gr1 stalled since 2011 no excuse really. And then I picked up a fujimi gr1 (av-8a boxing) at cosford this weekend for £6 !

You can't have enough harriers I was all over the gr3 the raf had wheeled out for display looks in surprisingly good nick

I'm curious about the new release 1/48th airfix gr3 is this new tool? I wish they would put on the box new tooling

Cheers for posting this Rob

I assume a separate AV8-A will be forthcoming?

Open to debate that one - there is no provision on the sprues seen so far for AV-8A parts, and the response I got when asked was 'no current plans' - but that usually just means 'no plans for 2013'

Excuse my ignorance, however the AV-8A series of Harriers can't be that difficult to convert from a GR.1 base kit?

We just need Hannants to come out with another Harrier decal sheet and add that long antenna thingy on top of the fuse.

Cheers.. Dave

Don't have much hope in an AV-8A/S. Not that it's going to be much of a problem though as aftermarket companies will sure make the parts needed available

Hit the nail on the head there Giorgio, I doubt Airfix think there is much of a market for an OOB US/Spanish/Thai so why not just let the AM guys provide those bits, and keep them going too! Keeps the base kit price low too. It's win win all round!

Ill certainly do my bit to help Hornby recover by buying a few!!

Time to start saving for a few of these! There are a few aftermarket sheets with AV-8A & S options available already with more of these & GR.1 & 3 options bound to follow.

AV-8A is not difficult - new seat (Earliest has MB mk 9s), VHF antennae and port root spotlight. Slime lights on later service a/c. Small variations in outlets etc depending on timescale. AV-8S adds another aerial and the option of RWR on later aircraft

£10.99 for the normal boxing and £9.99 for the starter set?

Good value for money either way!

I could be wrong but if the GR7/9 kit was anything to go by, the decal sheet in the main kit will be massive and fill the whole box, with stencils for everything, whereas the Starter set may only have the basic markings.....

Either way - I'll be needing a few.........................

I popped the box on one in hobby craft, raised panels lines etc. Left it on the shelf!

The 1/48th kit is not new tooling though Rob! Its the old original GR3 kit from back in the eigthies- despite being old its still a good kit , very accurate dimensionally and certainly buildable - I've built a few over that period of time!!

If you need to know whats new tooling from Airfix, just take a look on this website .... there have been enough postings on here over the last few months about Airfix's new releases!!

And very nice it looked to at the London Model Show

They had the sprues on show and the fin and nose are separate items to cater for the GR3. Maybe their best kit yet in 1/72 IMHO.
