rossm
I don't normally go in for the "aren't XYZ kits expensive" post but this one left me speechless. http://www.ebay.com/itm/221231856595?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 According to my rough measurement the Airfix kit tailplanes are the right size for the early flat version so a cheaper way to get there would be the usual £25 on fleabay for a Hasegawa Mk.VI or X plus an Airfix kit. On the other hand anyone complaining about new Hasegawa prices now has a benchmark for what the market will pay! I've never seen "vintage" kits on Antiques Roadshow but could it happen? You don't even need to go that far. ISTR, from when I looked into it, that one judicious saw cut along an existing panel line willl convert the Hasegawa dihedral tailplane into the early non-dihedral version. Don'y know about Anitques Road Show but, with below-inflation savings rates of around 2%, models look an increasingly viable investment option. Greenshirt
Patience is something one should take to ebay or similar sites. I watched kits go for similar prices, always putting my measly $15 max bid in, until one day about 6 months later I won at that $15 price. Bonus was it also had some resin AM bits. But if you absolutely have to have that one right now... Tim
Potato Pete
I was watching that one too - wasn't particularly fussed that it was a Mk1, just wanted a Hasegawa Beau. Thought I might go as far as £25. Couldn't believe the final bid. Pete
Sgt.Squarehead
Looks klike Airfix will probably do quite well with their new one next year.

Do two people really want it that much?

-Neu-
Meanwhile, at my local LHS in Japan.... (sorry for the repost) 2400~2600 yen each and I know there are three more in the store. I should start a export business... or at least get one for myself. Edited June 5, 2013 by -Neu-
Max Headroom
2600 is about £18. Ho hum. C'mon Airfix do a 1a/1f, II, and a VI/X. Start in 1/72 and then the year after 1/48. Trevor
2wheels
I bought the same kit in December 2011 on e.bay for £19.99 from a UK seller. Wish I hadn't built it now! But I think some people just get carried away with bidding in the heat of the moment.
AWFK10
They certainly seem to. I was watching a used copy of the Mushroom Model Publications Macchi C.202 book recently. It was put on at a very reasonable price but sold for more (once postage is taken into account) than the buyer would have needed to lay out for a brand new one - as he could have established in about 60 seconds by checking on Amazon. Navy Bird
Looks klike Airfix will probably do quite well with their new one next year. They won't do that until I spend six months building their current kit, fixing all the boo-boos, and adding all the resin and aftermarket designed for the Hasegawa kit! Once that's finished, then they'll announce! Cheers, Bill
