gunpowder17
OK i have had a complete change of heart on this. I visited Hendon again on Fathers day. I was looking at the Halifax again. I found myself thinking that it was actually a bit more interesting than the others and seemed a bit more "real". You only get originality once. Once its been restored , i hate to say , its not quite the same. A good approach to this type of scenario is Duxfords 109e. One half restored , the other side original. I find myself wanting to touch the original side , but not bothered about the restored side. Strange , but then again i am strange...
Max Headroom
The Hampden when it goes on show will also be half and half. With the Halifax I believe that it's delaminating now so they couldn't do anything other than try to stabilise it anyway. Preservation techniques have improved since its recovery. scorpiomikey
This is amazing to see. I hope we get to see regular updates on its progress like the P-61 and the mossie.
Steve N
I have to say that I'm no fan of the RAF Museum Halifax, it feels like they took the cheap option there and whilst the Yorkshire Air Museum Halibag 'isn't' really, I prefer it to the to the RAFM version! I was just visited the world's only complete, restored, original Halifax last weekend, and shot a full set of walkaround photos. I can post them if you're interested... HammerUK9
Could well be!! When I was in Ontario in 2008 (with the BCRT for those knowledgeable about fullbore shooting ) we stayed at CFB Trenton for one night and went to see the RCAF Museum next door. I recall they were working on a Halifax restoration at the time, but as a WIP it wasn't publicly visible. Tim
