Citric acid, eh? Mmmm... lemony! :fool:

Fingers crossed they manage to grab it in a oner - would like to actually see a Do-17, even if it is a bit damp :)

Im no expert but that looks very dodgy to me....one main spar bit and a bit of support at the tail and wings .....I really hope they get it up through the water in one piece and not several as I fear :shutup:

Looks like there could be a need for a 1/1 scale resin and etched brass aftermarket set. :frantic:

I watched the BBC special that was on their news channel, a couple of weeks ago and they explained how they were going to construct the frame around the a/c so that the cradle takes the load. Then they went on to explain why they would use the citrus showers to clean and preserve her. I was quite optimistic after seeing it all.

Not so much now though. :(

Despite being a militantly atheistic individual, I will definitely be praying that it comes up in one piece. Let's hope that main spar holds. :pray:

I don't support there's any chance of a nose/tail first recovery to reduce fluid drag and induced bending? Something like this?

To quote from the BBC;

What is more, the salvage team discovered that the wreck, which was thought to be resting entirely on sand and silt, was in fact partly lying on chalk bedrock.

To put the lower struts of the frame in place, divers were having to drill painstakingly through the chalk rather than simply sliding the frame's components through soft sand.

Sounds a bit half arsed, the original salvage operation plan seems to have been designed around and based on assumptions that is was resting on silt/sand? Wasn't a site survey undertaken? Weren't the points that the frame was going to be attached and built around checked before the whole salvage operation actually started? The site is only 50 feet down, readily accessible using standard diving gear. Still, always Plan C - the grappling hook on the end of a length of chain....

I wish them the best of luck with the salvage but I did have one question... I always thought a war ship wreck was a dessignated war grave... is that not true of aircraft as well????

There weren't/aren't any bodies in or around the aircraft, the pilot and navigator were captured and the other two crew members died but their bodies were washed ashore at the time.

All the sources I've seen say it's been postponed till midnight :(

Typical, the moment the weather tidies up a bit, the equipment starts causing delays :weep:
