tonyot Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I`ve just caught up with this build and have to say that you are doing a brilliant job of it. The highlights for me are your engine paintwork and the way that you represent chipped paint and wear on the SBG scheme,.....especially those wing roots! Like others have said, they look like real wear,......as if a 1/32nd scale little man has been marching up and down to the cockpit and back again! I`m looking forward to seeing the finished item and hope that Trumpeter release an AEW.1 version so that I can do a Royal Navy model, Keep up the good work, you are on the final hurdle now! Cheers Tony O
Michaelvk Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 My apologies for the miserable quality, I've got awful lighting here.. Put on the paint weathering on, modulating the blues..
jettnett2003 Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 After recently coming back into the hobby, the skill of some members on here is just outstanding. I only hope I can get to a similar level as the majority of the regular "builders" Please keep it up, it is simply inspiring to see.
tonyot Posted October 27, 2013 Posted October 27, 2013 I`ve just bought this kit at the weekend on the strength of this awesome thread!! I do hope that an AEW.1 conversion appears on the scene as that is the version that I`d really like to build but if not, then the Korean US Navy bird will still look nice, especially as I`ll be following all of the hints and tips provided here, Keep up the great work and looking forward to seeing it finished, Cheers Tony O
Michaelvk Posted December 4, 2013 Author Posted December 4, 2013 Right chaps.. The show I work on has come to an end this season (no, it's Not Doctor Who..), which means I now have loads of time on my hands to focus on my models that've been languishing in limbo. This means that this big ol' bird is going to be resurrected too..
youngtiger1 Posted December 4, 2013 Posted December 4, 2013 Wow, this shot above looks really cool. After the props are painted take the same angle shot and photoshop appropriate background and no one will be able to tell that it's a model. Awesome job Michael. Mike
Michaelvk Posted December 7, 2013 Author Posted December 7, 2013 Alright chaps.. Have I now cocked this up or am I still okay? 1
DJJunis Posted December 7, 2013 Posted December 7, 2013 No problems yet....still absolutely brilliant....I have been so tempted to get that kit but I build 1/48 with some 1/72 bombers. It is VERY inspirational though...one of my all time favorite aircraft..in any color. Well done! Don
Michaelvk Posted December 8, 2013 Author Posted December 8, 2013 Thanks guys! I loosely assembled the thing.. The cowling, wings, UC and control surfaces are all still loose.. 2
Mozzy19 Posted December 8, 2013 Posted December 8, 2013 Pylons? What pylons? Great progress so far, can't wait to see it finished. Sean
Michaelvk Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 Did some catching up with this thing tonight.. Base layers are on the pylons, UC bay doors are more or less done.. Also did some work on the prop, weathering the backsides of the blades.. 1
DJJunis Posted December 9, 2013 Posted December 9, 2013 Hate to bring this up at this late stage but can you check please your references concerning the leading edge landing lights. These are radar warning antenna I believe...easy fix...paint them dark grey. All the Best! Don
Michaelvk Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 Referwhatnows? Cool.. I was wondering why they weren't showing up on pictures as nav lights..
Michaelvk Posted December 9, 2013 Author Posted December 9, 2013 So after applying all acrylics I then spritzed some Tamiya satin clear straight from the can onto the rudder, which led to this: ..eh, I mean this, which is pretty much the same reaction.. So after some sanding and a little masking and some fresh paint.. And we revert to regular programming..
Michaelvk Posted December 10, 2013 Author Posted December 10, 2013 Soooo close now! Things left to ruin: - Rudder - Prop - UC door jacks - Arrester hook - inboard gun flash suppressors - Inboard gun spent cardridge link chutes - aileron linkages The story so far:
youngtiger1 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Man oman, every new update here makes me want this kit more n more Michael, you are doing great and like l've said before this will be heck of a model in the end. I'm glad that I'm in US and won't have to compete with this at a show. Totally awesome!! Mike
Michaelvk Posted December 10, 2013 Author Posted December 10, 2013 Thanks guys! The thing has decided to put up a fight now I'm close to the end.. But it won't beat me! Don't worry, Mike.. I don't build for competition anyway.. It's too stressful 1
robw_uk Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 simply stunning... subtle but it just feels right..... (not like my weathering - way too OTT)
