jargonking
How cool is this?...I'm not a fan of the Ian Gillan Band (whose album cover this was done for) but I AM a lifelong fan of Chris Foss who painted it...he is a huge influence on my own work and ideas.Clear Air Turbulence has always been pretty much my all time favourite Foss painting.Yesterday a cardboard tube arrived containing this limited edition print signed and annotated by the man himself. It was a birthday gift from my brother Simon in Hong Kong.Certainly one of the best gifts I've ever been given, I was gobsmacked when I opened it.What is more surreal is that it is now up on the Foss site too. http://www.chrisfossart.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/DSCF5042IainsA3.jpg
Pete in Lincs
Lucky Lucky Lucky! Hugely envious here. Back in the 70's there was a broadsheet sized monthly Sci Fi mag Which featured artists of the day. I always looked forward to his work. I have some on my computer now. But they pale in comparison to your gift. May I adopt your brother? My Birthday is next April..... seadog
Ah, I remember totally cool album art! Chris Foss and Roger Dean et. al. Lucky you!
Will Vale
Fantastic present, lucky you. Random Chris Foss fact I feel compelled to trot out that you probably already know: He did the lovely pencil illustrations for The Joy of Sex.
seadog
LOL, I didn't know that. The most unjoyful couple in the history of the bonk! As you say, though, very fine drawing.
GordonD
Back in the 70's there was a broadsheet sized monthly Sci Fi mag I still have all my copies, filed away in binders of a particularly hideous purple colour.
Mike
That brings back memories - used to love his artwork, and noticed that in Iain M Banks' book Consider Phelbas, the "pirate" ship is the Clear Air Turbulence, or Cat for short
general melchett
Very cool...I 'm also a huge fan of his, I remember as spotty teenagers my step brother had this IGB album, don't recall the music but loved the album cover, always thought it was a cool piece of art. Pete in Lincs
Gordon, What was the name of the magazine, please. I'd like to try to find a few copies if possible. Mine used to be used to decorate my room. General, Didn't the huge moustache cover the spots? Pete

TonyG
If you like Chris Foss's work, take a look at his book 'Hardware'... covers pretty much everything he's done. First time I saw his work was on Sci-Fi book covers back in the seventies, they were just amazing then and still are now.
