boeing 747-8 lufthansa top wing colour?

Recommended Posts

hi all I am doing the revel Boeing 747-8 in the Lufthansa colours my question is that revel say the top of the wings are white but pics I have seen on airliners.net and others show its grey does anyone have the correct answer to which colour it is.

I see your confusion. There are some pictures that seem to show the wings as being light grey and others that show them as being white. For my rapidly progressing RV 747-8 build I will go with standard LH wing colours (white), with Revell 374 for the lower surfaces.

and just to confirm it -

2012_8_26th_1_PAE-PaineField_zpsdbf0d575

there are over 40 pages of 747-8's on a.net, inlcuding numerous of lufty's so take your time researching - your bound to find whaty you need eventually

Wouldn't have thought they'd allow a helicopter into the flight path of an airport and given how low the 748 looks I'd more than likely say a nearby office block or multi storey carpark with a zoom lens...

I've seen many of these air-to-air shots from LAX. I think that there's a business there which specialises in them. They fly Cessnas parallel to the runways, far enough out that they're not interfering with the traffic, and of course are operating in the Control Zone in full contact with the Tower at all times. Most likely the pilots of the heavies are aware they're being photographed. Here's the most dramatic one I've seen, and this one's taken a few seconds later. The foreshortening from the telephoto lens is dramatically apparent in the first shot.

That first one is actually quite good!!!

Anyway, returning on topic - glad this subject has come up as I have a Lufthansa 748 to build as well!!!

Some of that "air to air" stuff at LAX is taken from the control tower with a really long lens. I've taken some from up there myself. I was lucky enough to get a tour of the "new" (then) tower in 1996 before the FAA had even moved into it. The structure was complete, but the cab was totally empty! It's a LONG way up in the air.

...and Lufty's wings are still white

don't forget also that the white lines up with the centre of the wing leading edge but also the trailing edge as well so it's usually lower behind the wing

Those pics looking like Sam Chui pics taken from R44s that you can hire from LAX they are allowed fly in the CTA along a narrow corridor pricey but I'm sure worth it

I think they are Boeing grey too 😉  a conundrum like the Irish Air Corps Dauphins some people thought they were white all over not light aircraft grey on the lower parts.  787s are white though I think 😁

Since this thread began LH introduced their 2018 livery in which wings are white top and bottom.

Until then B748 wings were white on top with LH grey undersides (I sat staring at them for 8 hours going to the USA in 2017).

Cheers

Sorry for the late reply - I forgot about this thread until today, when I asked myself the same question again!

As my build is a 'what if', I'm tempted to go with light grey wings - I think the model will have too much white on it otherwise. Plus it will be a contrast to the fuselage and a nod to the previous BA liveries.

BA liveries

Thing to remember is this thread was originally started about LH not BA and being a What-if no-one can say it's wrong. Plus the wings are constructed differently to the B787 and the A350 which have less tolerance to thermal expansion and flexing.

Edit: I would say that Boeing grey wings without coroguard will be perfectly acceptable. It's what I'm going to do with mine.
