Wez
I've just got my Xtradecal sheets for the Vampire trainer and whilst trying to decide which one to choose I noticed there were several without ejector seats - all have the later canopy as per the kit but the seats got me intrigued - what do they look like? There's WZ589 from 56 Sqn and XD588 of 141 Sqn RAF on X72-172, both Swedish options and the South African jet on X72-173 . The notes for the Swedish jets say they're bakelite-type "Spitfire" type seats, I would have expected them to be very similar to the single-seater bucket seat - does anybody know? Has anybody got pictures? Were the Swedish seats different? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Current favourite BTW is the 141 Sqn jet which is overall silver but without trainer yellow bands - very unusual! Thanks Wez

They are basically standard seats, i.e.the same red/brown SRBP 'plastic' seat that was fitted to many British single-seat aircraft - Vampire, Hornet, Provost. Even some Canberras had them. They had minor variations peculiar to the aircraft they were fitted to of course, but were basically the same seat. canberra kid
Wez, this is the seat from the Canberra, I don't think the A-frame is applicable to the Vampire, I'm sure that's for the Canberra T.4 but the basic seat is probably the same. You can find more photos of the seat on my site here. http://ipmscanberrasig.webs.com/apps/photos/album?albumid=11214585 John
StephenMG
Yes John, that's exactly the Canberra seat I was thinking of! You're correct, the A-frame is unique to the Canberra T.4 but the seat itself is a pretty standard item.
