bushande
Hey folks, been a while since I last visited the forum. Now what are the odds. About presactly a year ago I completed the first member of the “dynamic duo”. http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234917593-148-luftwaffe-tornado-ecr-4633-lechfeld-tiger-2011/?hl=lechfeld Eventually the Tiger is not alone anymore and finally gets to stand aside its sister. This year’s march the Fighter Bomber Wing 32 in Lechfeld/Bavaria with it’s two squadrons 32-1 Tigers and 32-2 Monsters has been disbanded and sadly their last and in my eyes best two show jets got scrapped already last year. What a pity but at least I get to keep the two now hopefully for good on my shelf. Tadaaa ..... Edited May 9, 2013 by bushande
bushande
Please bear with me but I’m everything but a genius with the camera and am doing even worse when it comes to using photo tools but the creases in the fabric of the background were a little too annoying. I hope it doesn’t mess up the presentation too much. Base was again the well known Italeri kit, albeit in an IDS version which I had as a spare left over. Since I didn’t want to buy a new one with this one lying around I scratched all necessary parts for a proper ECR-version of the Tonka. Basically I did the same changes to the kit that I already did building the last Lechfeld Tiger. Hence I won’t bore anyone just repeating the conversions that have been described in the Tiger thread. The crew has put on their show helmets an show-off patches on the shoulder. I individualized the two again just like last time but while the Tiger-WSO had himself chauffeured around rather lethargically this Monster-WSO is a little more communicative. Die Besatzung hat ihre Ausgehhelme aufgesetzt und die Show-Patches auf die Schultern gepappt. Hang loose Dude.
bushande
The sealbags have been made flexible again: IRIST’s are also DIY: I have to say it time and again; May the Italeri-Tonka be ever so weak in terms of detailing, at least in regards to its dimensions it’s pretty much unbeatable in my eyes. Yes there are little things off but I still think it’s the most accurate kit out there. Just like with the Tiger the base for my decals were shots of the original and as I said I’m not a genius in picture processing. Thus I depended on a kit that has possibly the same inner dimensions as the original and just like the Tiger I couldn’t make out any significant discrepancies. I just had to further detail all the kit parts and that was it. A real big con of the kit are obviously the too round root of the fin and the totally messed up pylons. Fortunately it’s not a big problem to sand the root to its proper shape and cut the pylons to the right dimensions. The BOZ had also been reshaped a bit. The HARM racks are also scratchbuilt and the HARMs were leftovers from my Digital CONA Hornet project. Ha, saved again! After checking back with the references of the original that I got I must say, everything … well at least all the major spots sit on the model just about where they should be. Especially the starboard side with the refuelling probe is always a little tricky but it actually went quite well just with the first try. Lucky me I guess. The display was converted to match the one I already did for the Tiger. The Tigers had a special logo design for their last Tiger which the Monsters hadn’t so I just kind of took their normal logo of the patch and tried to make it match the style of their last monster a little.: O.k., before we get lost in too many detail shots some portraits to round this up: And since the two sisters look best as the pair they were, here the „Dynamic Duo“ at least in 1/48 again, if the two originals had to go to the scrapper anyways. O.k. off they go on the shelf and that should be it then. Hopy you enjoyed it a little.

exdraken
outstanding job! how did you paint THAT??? Airbrush or all hand painted? Thanks, Werner
bushande
Many thanks. Happy it is so well received and Imust confess a little proud that everybody seems to think, this is painted. Nope, all selfmade decals. I used high-res photos of the original as a base for my decals and applied them as a kind of .... well ... for lack of a more fitting term "full body condom" so to speak. :-D

nimrod77
Beautiful! How did you make those side seals flexible like that?
bushande
Thank you very much all again for the kind words. Let's see how I fare with the Tiger in 1/32. The flexible seal bags are not such a big deal. I cut a hole with the actual seal bag form in the kit and stuffed it with foam that I layered then with rubber. It's actually pretty easy. Doing that with a Tomcat is a little more challenging but possible too.
