RNoAF Aerobatic Team Posted June 17, 2013 Posted June 17, 2013 Looking good so far. Keep up the good work. I`ll be watching....
Icarus Posted June 19, 2013 Author Posted June 19, 2013 Evening all. I've sprayed on the Barley Grey now. I have a day off tomorrow, so will aim to Alclad the metal components (over a base of Tamiya Matt Black), then varnish this ready for the subsequent decal-fest.. Icarus
pacificmustang Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 why MATT black Icarus? Alclad needs a smooth undercoat, or are you goin to buff the matt black to a sheen? Nice build by the way Bruce
Icarus Posted June 20, 2013 Author Posted June 20, 2013 Thanks Bruce. Good point. Gloss black. Icarus
AirfixAndy Posted June 20, 2013 Posted June 20, 2013 Adding the radome brings it to life Strange request I know but could you post a side plan view of the build please Andy
Icarus Posted June 21, 2013 Author Posted June 21, 2013 Morning all. Various metal bits now painted, and overall Klear varnish applied. Ready for the decal fest.... Tried to take a side-on view for Andy, but this is more difficult than it seems. Perhaps I need some remedial photography lessons. Icarus 1
Icarus Posted June 21, 2013 Author Posted June 21, 2013 Evening all. Mid decal-fest. There are alot to put on...! Icarus
pacificmustang Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 strewth, thats come to life!! Loving it Bruce
trickyrich Posted June 22, 2013 Posted June 22, 2013 it certainly looks nice in the bigger scale, may have to get me one! nice job, looking great!
Icarus Posted June 23, 2013 Author Posted June 23, 2013 Decals finally finished. Need to add the rest of the detail bits (plus the undercarriage!), gently weather, final satin varnish, finish unmasking then finito! I suspect my next build may be the Firebirds Eduard 1:48 Lightning, to keep the theme going... Icarus 2
AirfixAndy Posted June 24, 2013 Posted June 24, 2013 Thanks for the photos mate Looks very smart Andy
Icarus Posted June 27, 2013 Author Posted June 27, 2013 Nearly there. Just the a bit more metal, weathering then the final satin varnish.. Icarus 3
RNoAF Aerobatic Team Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 It looks absolutely stunning. Looking forward to the finished productB-)
Icarus Posted June 27, 2013 Author Posted June 27, 2013 (edited) Rest of images now taken, and on full collection deposited in the Gallery. Thanks for all the helpful comments and encouragement. Icarus Edited June 27, 2013 by Icarus
AirfixAndy Posted June 30, 2013 Posted June 30, 2013 Well done ! I think I may have to change my opinion of this "problem" kit.....looks really good. You have inspired me to build mine Andy
Icarus Posted July 1, 2013 Author Posted July 1, 2013 Thank you for your kind words Ørjan and Andy. I'm not sure how this got a kit got a reputation as a bit of a problem child. The spacer for the extended nose cone doesn't fit very well, but that may have been an "engineer" rather than "engineering" issue. Otherwise, the kit was a breeze. I'm sat out here in distant lands, up at God-forsaken o'clock thanks to my jet lag, and looking at the photos I took of the completed build. They're a bit pants if the truth be known. Unfortunately, I'm not back from this business trip until the 15th July, so frustratingly there's not much I can do about it in the short term. If the Gallery is not locked out by the time I get back, I will try and take some more professional piccies of the Firebird, and post them there. Icarus
Icarus Posted July 18, 2013 Author Posted July 18, 2013 Finally back from my business trip. I see the Gallery has not closed down yet, so I will add in the missing images, Note - the weathering was completed properly, with the dirt from the thrust reversers! Icarus
