Karl Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 Hi, Can anyone tell me if the nose colour of an F-15E Strike Eagle based at Lakenheath is likely to be different from the main fuselage colour? I've looked at lots of pictures and I think that the nose cone is a bit lighter, however I'm not sure if I am seeing an optical illusion or if it is actually the same colour and looks different due to it being a different material or if it really is different to the fuselages Gunship Grey. Any suggestions either way, and if it is different what colour would be suitable? Cheers Karl
pte1643 Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 A Google search will bring up loads of pics, some with lighter radomes, even some with darker. Nothing to over think really.
Scarlet Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 The colour difference is because the radome is moulded in colour and not painted. This causes it to weather differently from the paint.
Parabat Posted April 28, 2013 Posted April 28, 2013 As above, the radome is colour impregnated composite, so it fades over time, having that lighter appearance to the body that you see.
geedubelyer Posted April 30, 2013 Posted April 30, 2013 One thing of note, the F-15C can use an F-15E radome but the F-15E cannot use an F-15C radome. One more useless piece of information in the world.
Shaun Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 The same happens to the F-16's radome, you will find all shades of gray when you study photo's of the real jet. So just pick an airframe and try and match to that. Shaun.
