Ex-FAAWAFU Posted April 26, 2013 Share Posted April 26, 2013 Guys - I am going to the FAA Museum at VL tomorrow, armed with my trusty camera - I want a load of walkround shots (Swordfish, Albacore, Lynx, Sea King, Sea Fury, Walrus...) A question that comes up from time to time is what the areas around the camera ports look like (because the drawings are difficult to interpret). You might be doing someone a service if you could post up some nice clear pictures of the relevant areas. Also, if they've taken the wraps off the Martlet I in the restoration shop (which I very much doubt!, a load of us on here would be very interested in colour photos of the original US delivery colours uncovered beneath the layers of later paint. Since you'll be having a look at the Sea King, some nice detailed shots of the torpedo/weapon mounts under the sponsons and at the rear of the fuselage would be great as I have had real trouble finding useable ones anywhere. Again, noted - though I very much doubt there will be aft weapons stations fitted; in all my Sea King experience (2,000 hours+ on type, 820 & 819) I never saw the aft weapons stations fitted; the Sea King 5/6 already had major C of G problems because of all the added gubbins in the back from its design era... without adding a torpedo or two that far aft. I wouldn't mind, if you'r passing, a couple general overall shots of the Seafire if possible. I took my Farther down last year and took hundreds of pictures but I transfered them all to a brand new server hard drive when I came back. Just before my weekly auto back-up the new drive failed!! I managed to recover everything up to the Seafire (one of the main reasons for going!) but everything after that has been lost. The light isn't fantastic for photos in there; the one of the rear of the engine is with flash, and the other without - so you might want to play with white balance in photo editing software if you are looking for 100% gospel colour info. Ventral I also took dozens of Lynx, Sea King, Albacore, Sea Fury & Vixen shots - I'll do them in slower time in the relevant walkround area of the site. It's the relationship between the strengthening panel and the oil deflector that's diffficult to interpret from drawings unless you have some idea what they're supposed to look like. If you have the resources, do a set of good photos of all aspects of the exhibits - including well-lit cockpit shots - and market them as individual photo CD's. I'm sure there would be a market for them - albeit rather specialised and small - but a market nonetheless. I won't charge much for the idea......
