ben_m
Its nice but the paint job to my eye looks a little bit washed out The area under the rear canopy should be Black. The spinner seems to have a panel line that shouldnt be there ? All very minor nic picks but a lovely build never the less The area under the canopy was camouflage colours, not black nor interior green. This aircraft was discussed in the thread on this kit's box art Chris Thomas suggests this similar aircraft as the best reference: Libor: are these the kit decals? I.e. have they contradicted the box art's erroneous red TP codes? If you have good communications with Bren gun, could you bring to their attention the errors on the late bubbletop box decals, and other points that I raised in my review? But all that aside,I love viewing your builds, and this is a great one. Thanks for posting it.
Georgiepot
Libor, that is incredible. For 1/72 it is stunning, there is no part of that aircraft I don't enjoy looking at.
Redboost
Thanks everyone for comments, much appreciated gents! For Tony: he have'nt escaped to the west; in early 60's he was partially rehabilited and could work as Czech Airlines pilot (Avia 14, Tu-104, Tu-124), being retired in 1971. The Brengun car door kit will include new fuselage. The conversion from bubble version is possible, but I would wait for the proper version. Btw, the early Mk.IA with 12 mg wing is coming too. Ben: the decals should be correct, no Red codes . That artwork presented at Nürnberg toy fair was just a copy of old artwork coming from a Czech mag (early 1980's or so) desribing Jiri Manak ditching, the actual box art is updated. They are aware about the errors in late marks decals and these should be corrected, if any further release will appear. I followed that discussion about JP613 and I disagree there is no picture of it. Yes, it is, just partial starboard view that may support some of my conclusions: - three blader, spinner Sky (most likely), exhaust with no shrouds, antennae mast in the canopy (I though the late wire type was used since JP648 on), no mirror, bomb racks, covered gun barrels. Cheers Libor

Cheers Libor I should have read to the bottom of the thread before replying! Re JP613 I think it probably had the whip aerial and exhaust fairings (as per the photo of TP-R) as the earliest photo to come to light showing these features (on a production Typhoon in squadron service)is of JP590 EL-C 181 sqn. JP592, JX-L 1 sqn was similar. As regards markings, I doubt if JP613 had the yellow over-wing stripes. These were removed from 11 Group aircraft at the beginning of 1943 and from 10 and 11 Group aircraft in mid-summer of 1943. Photos of 198's aircraft in 1943 are conspicuous by their absence but they had black/sky spinners in Jan 44 and as this style originated with the misinterpretation of marking change orders at the beginning of 1943 I would expect that they were marked like that throughout that year. But its only theory .... Cracking model! Chris
Redboost
Thanks Chris for your input, much appreciated. I based my assumption about the exhausts on JP 682 that has no fairings therefore I thought the former machine should have the same. Anyway, I assume these could be dismantled in service? The Yellow ID strips are my "artistic license" just to make the paintjob more interesting. The sources state these were retained until mid-1943, so I guessed I could not been completely wrong here. Anyway, that JP613 photo is not clear enough on that. Cheers Libor

Chris Just my opinion Chris , i was quoting from Camouflage & Markings regarding the area under the rear canopy regarded by some as the Bible when it comes to information about interior colours , however i may have misinterpreted the text and asumed they are refering to the car door instead of the bubble top so looks like i got that one wrong. I had no intention of being critical the model is indeed a beauty i was just pointing out things which i thought were incorrect and no offence was intended. I still stand by my comment regarding the paint finish to me the colours are just not solid enough , your colour pic of TP-R shows very clearly the colours are very vivid however this is just my opinion and how modelers wish to finish their models is up to them. And I had no intention of being critical of you being critical! I was expressing my own discomfort at being critical in the face of such craftsmanship. However, where it is about the finer points of historical detail, all can benefit from the ensuing discussion. Witness some of the amazing and illuminating threads on this website. Redboost
Hi Keith, I fully respect your opinion and I'm fine with it! The kit is done in my usual style, preferring some of the painting techniques that may not suit to everyone. Additionally, I balance the shots in Adobe Photoshop and I admitt I may overdone the lightening and balancing the White color, what influenced the other colors too. That line on the spinner is present on the kit part, I just did no notice it should not be there. Thanks, Libor
