Muzz
Planning on heading to Leuchars tomorrow to try and catch some of the JW participants, can anyone suggest a good spot? Muzz
Filler
Sorry I can't help as I've never been there but, can I ask what the JW is? At home I do have two editions of British Military Airfields which were an Ian Allen pocket book guide to viewing our airbases. I can consult them this evening but they're a few years old now. Duncan B
South of the Base there is an enbankment at the roadside (that runs through the middle of the Base and is a public road) right in line with the end of the runway you should get a good view from there and there are usually other people so you can always ask them where else. Bring waterproofs though it is a horrible wet day today and I'm not sure tomorrow will be any better. Duncan B
gmsphoto
Hi I am going to try tomorrow. Here is a guide from fighter control. http://www.fightercontrol.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=75&t=28525 Just download the PDF. There is a crash gate in the forest where you can see the jets taxying past. Graeme Edited April 17, 2013 by gmsphoto
Muzz
Thanks everyone for taking the time to reply, a great help. Planned it at the beginning of the week when Thursday looked the best day weather wise, unfortunately Duncan you may be correct, Fridays looking like a good day now but my friend can't make it. Filler, JW is Joint Warrior, the biggest air, sea and land exercise that takes place on the British mainland, the French have some aircraft there at the moment. Duncan B
Looks like you are in luck, the wind is blowing but its clear blue sky with a big yellow thing in it 35 miles up the road from Leuchars anyway. Duncan B

Muzz
Ha, ha cheers Duncan, been and back home again, the weather was kind but the flight schedule maybe not so much. Got a couple of Typhoons taking off and Entendards but nothing else. 6 Rafales made it to the end of the runway about lunchtime and for some reason turned tail and returned to there spots on the ramp! Although it did appear that they had to make way for a QRA launch. Edited April 18, 2013 by Muzz
