Cheshiretaurus
Slow progress recently due to family & work commitments wings have been on, and removed as I had managed to mis-rig them, yes I know having built a jig to avoid all that, going to try and get them on again this weekend. Cutter is nearly here. just have to pay the VAT on it, Think some one needs to change the batteries in their calculator though....... So $199.99 = £124.91 according to xe.com 20% VAT on £124.91 is £24.98 hmmmm and £13.50 for doing what? While your getting new batteries for that dodgy calculator you need see if you can borrow Dick Turpins mask. Not a lot I can do I'll just have to pay it. keefr22
If you search, there have been various threads on here about not paying the highwayman's fee to Parcelfarce. Something about telling them they have no right to hold the parcel, request delivery immediately, & that you will be paying the VAT directly, & then just ignoring PF's 'bill' if I remember correctly...... Cheshiretaurus
Change of plan I'm going to display it flaps down, this is due to the large gaps that have developed at the aft wing roots meaning the models wing roots would need to be curved to fit the fuselage, this is not a feature of the PA28 and I'm not sure how the model's fuselage has got like this, I suspect its due to too much sanding maybe. Anyway its going call for a redesign of the photo etch flap hinges. Ive cut the flaps off with a razor saw today and after much checking of the wing alignment I've glued them on with tube cement this time. I'm going to leave it in the jig overnight to set. The smell of that tube cement was quite nostalgic! Edited October 5, 2013 by Cheshiretaurus
Cheshiretaurus
A little more progress, wings have been finally securely fitted, wingroot gaps filled with milliput on the top surface, smoothed wet and green stuff used elseware, Ive made a set of 6 PE flap hinges, (not yet fitted) to go with the new 40 degree setting. Ive also made a new set of PE cowling panels, to be fitted just before painting, as I have obliterated the detail of the cast nose by sanding. duh! Added a blob of PVA glue to the roof to depict the cabin air vent. Found an old pic of a rather surprised me with G-PAWL, taken at Blackpool while I was doing my night rating, Would have been either 25th or 26th Feb 1999 Should I maybe include those stickers in the rear window, They are no longer there as that window got damaged a few years later, A young lady went flying and unknown to her the right seat belt was hanging out of the door hitting the side of the aircraft and window making an awful clunking and banging noise. She believed an engine failure might be imminent and made an excellent precautionary landing in a farmers field. The only damage was the window and her purse as the farmer demanded £100 or so for mashing his spuds. woody37
Lovely progress I did a Flying Scholarship at Blackpool ANT club back in 1988 on G-BASL, G-BGPU and G-BBEF. 17 years old, Topgun fresh in the mind, my god, did we have some fun dogfighting when out solo ! G-BBEF was quite tired compared to the others, so it was affectionately called Echo F****p !!!

I had the same thing hapen in a Cessna 150 - absolutely incredible - & scary - noise it made! Luckily I wasn't solo & had an instructor who'd heard it before with me! Otherwise I think I'd have been looking for a field to put it down in too! Cracking build, lovely little Cherokee emerging here Chesiretaurus! IIRC, the owner for the ANT club at the time went down in the Mersey Estuary on return from Ireland or Isle of Man some years later, not sure if anyone can shed any light on that incident ? He was a great guy, reminded me of Tommy Cooper both in appearance and the way he laughed. He took me for my GFT armed with a magazine and his dog, a great way to relax you I thought

He took me for my GFT armed with a magazine and his dog, a great way to relax you I thought I remember the day of that accident, I was an instructor at Barton at the time. It happened on short final to runway 09 at Liverpool, an air ambulance flight from the Isle of Man, the cause was inconclusive but it was likely pilot incapacitation on a single pilot aircraft following heart attack. Never got to meet Keith. AAIB report here http://www.aaib.gov.uk/cms_resources.cfm?file=/dft_avsafety_pdf_500947.pdf Also the accident to G-BBEF appears to be loss of control following an inavertant IMC encounter report from the Swiss authoritys here http://www.sust.admin.ch/pdfs/AV-berichte//2175_e.pdf Edited October 28, 2013 by Cheshiretaurus

Cheshiretaurus
Things moving ahead now, been preparing to fit the glazing today, finished painting the interior and painted the cockpit coming matt black, I said MATT black-HU33, oh it is HU33 might need some more stirring then. Cut out the vacuformed windows, dipped in klear, scribed the DV window on to the left B window (doesn't show on the photo very well) and made use of the newly acquired drill from LIDL to shape the windscreen edges. Will try to get the side windows fitted tomorrow
Cheshiretaurus
Things to do in the next week or two Fit the side widows Refit the flap lever to the up (flaps down) position to correspond with the flaps (PA28 drivers will know what I mean) Fit the interior module Fit the shoulder straps for the front seat, this will have to be done through the windscreen aperture Fit the windscreen Fit the door hinges, not sure how im going to make these yet Fit the PE flap hinges, tail tie down point, and fuel filler caps Might then be ready for a coat of gloss white Thanks for looking Mark Edit;- note to self, try not to use the word 'fit' as often Edited November 2, 2013 by Cheshiretaurus

Cheshiretaurus
Managed to get the side windows in today, fixed with Humbrol clear fix. Needs a bit of 1200 grade paper before painting I think.

Cheshiretaurus
Semi productive day, having found my self unexpectedly night stopping at Newcastle airport and driving home today decided to stop off at Hobbycraft purely to get a bottle of Humbrol clear to replace the perfumed stuff I have, This resulted in an epic fail, walked out with no clear but an Airfix Vampire T11 and a bottle of liquid poly, hows that for staying on focus, But did get a few sheets of 1200 grade paper from the nearby Halfords. Cherokees :- Made the shoulder straps from painted strips of Tamiya tape, theses are secured to the inertia reels on the side walls just behind where the front seats will be and just stuck to the inside of the windows at the moment, once the interior module is fitted the plan is to pull them off the windows an drape them over the front seats with tweezers through the windscreen. Instrument panel has been put in and secured with CA Lastly the flap handle has been moved up on the interior module to correspond with the flaps being down Tomorrow I'm on earlies so plan is to try to pick up a bottle of clear on my way home and try and get the interior in. and the shoulder straps in place. Fritag
once the interior module is fitted the plan is to .... Oh I do like the sound of that. 'Interior module' it just sounds so much better and more professional than 'the pit' or whatever. You don't mind if I start borrowing that in my post do you Cheshiretaurus? I fancy I could squeeze a couple of 'semi recumbent pilot comfort, support and emergency egress modules' into the cockpit of my JP. Trouble is - when you use it the phrase has proper cred - given that your little Cherokee is as much a work of engineering as modelling. Whereas if I use it people will just laugh. I do love this thread. I can't do half the stuff that you do - but one day I just might be able to. Ta Steve
Cheshiretaurus
'semi recumbent pilot comfort, support and emergency egress modules SRPCSAEEMs for short, sounds much better than 'bang seat' Steve, there are parts of your Chippy and JPs that are beyond me too that I'd love to be able to do. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the JPs build unfold.
Fritag
Talking of anal retentiveness (to cross thread as it were). You now have 121 replies from 10,052 views which is 1.2037% - whereas my JP thread has 120 replies from 10,617 views which is only 1.1302% leaving you the clear winner in strike rate. B***er. I've just made it 122 replies from 10,053 views putting you further ahead on 1.2135%. I'm going to get a cup of tea......

Yor JPs also have 16 watchers as opposed to my 8 making you the clear winner now.
Cheshiretaurus
'Interior module' is in and pulling the shoulder straps in place was easier than I expected, Windscreen has had a second dip in perfumed clear and is drying. Black markings are to help aligning the windscreen centre pillar with when I fit it.
