Heng Long Tiger I

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know what the accuracy issues are with this one? I've heard from a reliable source that it has problems compared to the old WSN/Torro kit in terms of shape, but other than that I don't know. At £50, it's a really cheap way to get into R/C AFVs, so I was interested to see whether the errors/issues are fixable, or whether an old WSN/Torro kit would be a better idea. I believe that the new HB Tiger I is based on the WSN moulds, so that kit could be a good source of spares for an otherwise OOP kit. :hmmm:

this is my old heng long tiger (bottom pic) the basic shape is ok but there is definitely room for some improvements' but its nothing any modeler cant sort out' i have a list somewhere i can post if you like.

the top pic is the wsn tiger which is infact the hobbyboss tiger 1 but the hobbyboss tiger is in kit form and is so so much better than the heng long tank.

regards oz!

first the cupola is the wrong way round, 2 fit mushroom heads on lifting lugs, 3 fit armored vent cover on front deck, 4 the barrel is way way to short, 5 pistol port is upside down, 6 remove this spare Ariel tube, 7 the mantlet is upside down and you need to disassemble the whole tank to correct this' which is not fun i can tell you.

hope you can understand my crude pic.

regards oz!

On the RC side I bought one round the STG60 mark and I can say I got a bit of fun out of it until the Circuit Board Packed in,As the new smoke and sound version were available I could not can a spare circuit board for it so sold it off. I could of wired in another receiver but let it go anyhow. The plastic nylon gears mesh a grind a bit on grass but you can get upgrade sets such a metal tracks and metal toothed gearboxes.

Hope that is of some help. As i said good fun whilst it lasted.

I have one of these in my folks loft, must dig it out next time I'm home. I'm Sure I paid £60 at least 10 years ago so I guess it is good value compared to how much every thing else as gone up.

Heres a link to the upgrade parts, There are also other tanks which may be a better buy quality wise. I have no connection with this operator FYI.

Prices seem to have gone up a bit since I last looked at these.

The barrel is in a retracted position as if it had just shot I believe, there are replacements available, the mantlet is a sod to move round, I did up one of these into a late model and got a set of metal late road wheels sprockets and idler wheels and metal tracks, changed the gearboxes to a lower ratio, it was good fun but weighed a ton after!

Yeah, I think the crew of the Tiger they patterned it on spiked the gun by draining off the hydraulic fluid in the recuperator and then firing a shot, resulting in the barrel jamming in the recoiled position. Apparently, the turret ring is both undersized and in the wrong position, which is quite a tricky fix, although I have seen it done by a combination of cutting out the engine deck and the underside of the turret to move it. Then the builder added some strip around the mount to give the impression of a larger ring.

P.S. There's an extension tube available for under a tenner for the gun, or you can just buy a nice new turned aluminium barrel that's the correct length and has a brass flash-hider. They start at around £15 and change from Welsh Dragon Models.
