mitchem Posted April 30, 2014 Author Posted April 30, 2014 Ta-Dah !!! The Alitalia -43 has managed to sneak over the finish line before the Zaire -63 : Some other photos have been posted in the RFI and can be found here : http://www.britmodeller.com/forums/index.php?/topic/234960146-1144-douglas-dc-8-43-alitalia/?p=1619546 ...and then there was just one eight to finish.... 1
keefr22 Posted April 30, 2014 Posted April 30, 2014 Mike mate that looks absolutely stunning - really top job!! Can't see there being any dumb cereal packet comments about that beauty!! K
MikeW Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 That A300 is a must Mike - I'm tempted to do a second one. I just started reading "Britain's Rebel Air Force" about the air war in Rhodesia, and in the photos in the middle is a shot of the Cargo Man DC-8. My immediate thought was " This is the full version of Mike's build!". I must say, they did get it correct, it looks identical to your model. Cheers, Mike
mitchem Posted May 1, 2014 Author Posted May 1, 2014 Thanks for the comments. Nearly over the finish line but I'm not sure how I'm going to fit all three of them in a family snap - two was a struggle : Surprising how beefy the engines on the -53 are ! MikeW, not sure if you've read "Wings of Destruction" by Peter Petter-Bowyer. Worth getting a copy if you haven't. (I'm afraid I was a bit disappointed with "Britain's Rebel Air Force" although it was the first time I'd ever seen a photo of the CargOman 8 in print.) 2
mitchem Posted May 3, 2014 Author Posted May 3, 2014 ..and we're there with the arrival of the flight from Kinshasa. Air Zaire DC-8-63 9Q-CLG "Domaine de la Nsele" All I need to do now is to try and take a photo of all three of them ! Thanks for all of the comments and support over the past year. You'll be pleased to know that the saga of the three 8s is just about over. Anyone for three 9s ??? 1
keefr22 Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 Anyone for three 9s ??? Ohhhh yes...!! Another absolute cracker there Mike, I don't know which of the three I like most...I'm thinking it could be this one - what a lovely color scheme!! Stunning work on them all mate, really great stuff! keith
Dr Evil Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 I think I'm with Cuddles, if I had to choose a fave it'd be this last one. If for no other reason than it looks more unusual, great stuff!
AndyC Posted May 3, 2014 Posted May 3, 2014 FWIW, I'm a sucker for classic schemes and that Air Zaire is gorgeous. Great work
mitchem Posted May 3, 2014 Author Posted May 3, 2014 Thanks for the comments - much appreciated. Here's the family portrait : 3
